When you’re snapping a tacky, cliched vacation photo, isn’t it annoying that all those other tourists are buzzing around and generally getting in the way of that monument/handsome plaza/amusing statue? Short of climbing up into a bell tower and, well, you know what, there’s little that you can do to remove these scampering human ants. You could take a sequence of photos and buy Photoshop just to paint out the milling hordes, or you could try Scalado’s Remove app. If you had an Android phone.
Remove does just what it says, removing things selectively from your photographs. You point your phone at your subject and hold it there for a few seconds before snapping your photo. Thus, the app now has a still image, plus many extra frames which — when combined — contain all of the background data.
The app then presents you with your still photo, outlining any moving elements with a glowing halo. Just tap the ones you don’t want and they disappear. It’s magic, and it’s better than the content-aware fill apps available for iOS because it is using real, recorded pixels to fill in the gaps. The video is pretty amazing:

Sadly, it’s Android-only, which I guess seems fair in that we have Instagram and they don’t. Or is it? The demo video shows Remove running on an HTC handset, but the app isn’t yet available. It will be on show at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain this month, so we’ll take a look and see if there’s an iOS version in the works.

Wow, that is pretty cool and would come in handy all the time. Any plans for it to be released to the iphone market?
Awesome, now we don’t have to stop when someone is taking a picture.
SynthCam for iPhone does this to a certain extent. It’s not as intuitive as Remove appears to be, but it’s on the iPhone and it’s free. Andy Ihnatko suggested it in Macbreak Weekly awhile back.
Android FTW!
Isn’t there already a 3d party application that will do this on your computer, independent of whatever camera you use?
If Apple doesn’t have this yet, then who was this technology stolen from?
Do the humans beings disappear in real life, or just in the picture? Because I have serious reservations about the app if it’s the former instead of the latter.
You can do this pretty easily in Photoshop, but I’d be interested in a dedicated app for this purpose as well.
This app is terribal. I only had four freinds to begin with, and this app ERAZED THEM ALL.
DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!
One star.
There is an iPhone/iPad app that does this: TouristEraser (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app…
Cool concept. By the way, your link to the video has a typo in the “htttp” which breaks it. Just a heads up.
You are stupid & lying…
I have GALAXY NEXUS (gsm – pentaband version) and i checked it and its not yet downloadable…
You fucking moron…
I have GALAXY NEXUS (gsm – pentaband version) and i checked it, its not yet downloadable…
Fake
TouchRetouch by Adva-Soft is not exactly the same but does the job…
Its possible. A person could do the same thing by manually taking multiple pictures then stitching and cutting certain parts. This jsut automates that process.
So next time I say to someone to “get out of my sight”, I whip out my phone and do this.
Just because it isn’t made by Apple doesn’t mean its not capable of being cool or innovative. Apple isn’t the only innovator in the market. Not by a long run. That’s why there is still loads of competition. If Apple were the only innovator, they’d dominate the entire mobile market but they don’t which proves others innvoate as well.
Pretty soon Apple will try to steal it just like they stole nearly every idea they have. Touchscreen? (Remember Palm Pilots Pocket PCs and the mix), Smartphone? (Blackberry PS: Android was bought by Google 2 years before IOS debuted) Siri? (My phone could take voice commands before last year ‘decent ones at least’)
