Cult Favorite: MediaPad Pro for iPad Reinvents Portfolio Presentation

What it is: MediaPad Pro is fantastically well designed software for the iPad that allows creative people of all types to easily place multiple portfolios of work — including audio, video, still images and websites — onto Apple’s tablet device and present them in professional, fully customized, brand-able fashion to potential clients, agents or patrons, to virtually anyone they’d like to view their work.

Why it’s cool: Anyone familiar with the world of photography or art and design can readily picture the sleep-deprived, underfed artist schlepping from gallery to gallery, struggling with the huge black portfolio folder that has long been a familiar icon of such career choices.

Well, what if that artist or designer could pour all of his or her work into Apple’s sleek 10″ iPad, pop it on some decision maker’s desk and with the touch of a button wow “the Man” with a branded slideshow, complete with a customizable business card, presentation environment and guest book for the artist to collect contact information in?

What if any songwriter or band representative could do the same thing with audio and video clips, or a filmmaker could show highlight reels, or a web designer could show off the websites she designed without making her viewer open up a web browser?

MediaPad Pro does all that and more, flawlessly leveraging the power and portability of the iPad into a presentation device that may change the way creatives showcase their portfolios forever.

Files to effect presentation interface styles and files containing portfolio content are easily added directly to the app via iTunes sync using the File Sharing section on the Apps tab.

Then, from within the app, custom splash page, headers, and business cards, as well as background colors and font styles can be customized to fit the personality of the work to be displayed.

Once content is loaded it can be arranged and repositioned to fit whatever display preferences the user chooses, be it still images viewed by swipe or by slideshow with customized transitions and intervals. The app supports video and audio content as well, and links to websites can be opened within the app without having to access Safari or another web browser on the iPad.

MediaPad Pro is simple but slick and is only in its first revision of version 1 after having been released just a month ago. Craig Orsini, spokesperson for MEDL Mobile, developers of the app, said the company is working on a version for iPhone that should be ready by the end of this year and is readying iPad v2.0 for release soon.

Where to get it: MediaPad Pro is available for download now from the iTunes App Store for $14.99.
