In Apple’s invitation to the company’s October 16th Town Hall event at its Cupertino headquarters, the company’s tagline is: “It’s been way too long.”
This has prompted a lot of speculation. It hasn’t been too long since Apple’s last event, which was just a month ago. And there aren’t that many other Apple products that we haven’t seen updated in the last year, with the exception of Thunderbolt displays, which frankly aren’t important enough to reference in an Apple tagline that the whole world will scrutinize.
But here’s a good theory. What if the tagline doesn’t reference a single product, but a variation of product? What if we’re about to see the return of colored Macs?
Daring Fireball’s John Gruber speculates:
Curious slogan, given that it can’t be a reference to how long it’s been since we’ve had an Apple special event. A reference to retina iMac displays, perhaps?
And as Jason Snell points out, they’re clearly referencing the classic six-color Apple logo. I love that.
(Wild guess: Perhaps the slogan suggests the return of Mac hardware in a variety of colors?)
I like that idea, though I’m skeptical it’s what Apple is talking about. I feel like we would have seen multicolored MacBooks in the supply chain already. But it’s possible that what they’re talking about is the new, plastic-bodied Mac Pro, which could easily come in multiple colors. But why? It’s not a consumer machines. Questions questions.

Colored Mac mini, chapped like 1/4-high Mac Pro
Sorry. 1/8 the high of a Mac Pro ;-)
Space Gray and Gold MacBook Airs, in addition to the Silver?
They are probably going to introduce plastic colorful imacs with a lower price tag!!!!!! Its been so long since I updated my imac!
What plastic bodied Mac Pro? Did I miss something?
the trashcan mac pro …you did miss something.
That Mac Pro is impact extruded aluminium. Hence my confusion. no plastic.
well they fooled me. It looks plastic. Some of the older iMacs had plastic backs right?
Yep, the version before the flush edge screen, where the aluminium showed around the border had a black plastic back, and before that the whole iMac was white plastic, the G5 and first Intel model
I really hope they don’t go back to colored iMacs. I feel that is cheapens the brand. I understand appeal to teens/young adults and maybe women, but business professionals will balk at it.
So …. are iPods dead now?!?
what if they do the plastic on the ipad in colors? Instead of just white and black they also come in the rainbow of colors?
Apple TV
I guess we need a new version of the Mac Mini and the iMac, with a colorful colors instead of the silver one’s!
iPod touch?
They also use Multi-Colored stuff for really big updates/New product categories.
Remember the iPad launch invitation/iPad mini/iOS 7/iPhone 5c/iPad Air?
I hope it’s a refresh to the iPod touch to meet the iphone 6 size and at least 5s specs.
