A skilled concept artist created a video with a wish list of new features for iOS 17, including displaying two applications at once and directly installing applications outside of the App Store. Plus quite a few more additions.
It’s a demonstration that, as good as iPhone is, there’s plenty room for improvement.
iOS 17 concept includes features we’d love
Apple is undoubtedly hard at work on iOS 17, so this seems like an excellent time to make recommendations for features that should be baked in.
Kevin Kall (AKA the Hacker 34) created his iOS 17 concept to showcase possible additions. Many of his suggestions are ones iPhone users have wanted for years.
The list starts with carrying Split View over from iPadOS to iPhone. The two applications could sit above/below or side-by-side, an arrangement that seems practical on a 6.5-inch iPhone Pro Max display.
Kall also suggests interactive Home screen widgets. These are currently information only, but many iPhone users want to be able to change tracks in Apple Music, create a calendar event, write a note, send a tweet, etc.
And his “one more thing” for this iOS 17 concept is sideloading applications. This would allow users to install software off websites or from a Mac, rather than going through the App Store. It’s a feature the European Union is forcing Apple to implement, and it has to show up on iPhone soon.
Kall’s suggestions also include making the Control Center more editable, custom lock screen buttons, easily swappable icon packs and a revamp of the Camera’s user interface.

This is just one of many concept videos the graphic designer has created over the years. That includes a proposed UI for Apple’s much-rumored augmented-reality glasses.
We’ll have wait to find out whether any of Kall’s iOS 17 suggestions will be implemented by Apple. The official unveiling of the next iPhone operating system will almost certainly be at WWDC 2023 in June.
