I’m still not entirely sure what I think about Google Instant, Google’s new search-as-you-type feature that updates your page with search results in real-time, but I do love the Chrome browser, so I guess I’ll have to get used to the new behavior of Chrome’s Omnibar, which now has Google Instant baked right in.
The feature’s been available on Windows Chrome builds for a few weeks now, but it has finally come to the Mac version as part of the Chromium for Mac build, which you can download here. . You’ll need to turn it on in the Chromium Labs panel, first though: just open a new tab and type about:labs in the address bar, then turn it on.
Once you’ve done that, any time you type a search entry into Chrome’s OmniBar, a Google page will open right below, filling itself with dynamic search results according to what you’ve typed so far.
Pretty neat. It’s only available for the Chromium beta build right now, but a stable Chrome release incorporating Google Instant should roll out sometime in the coming weeks.
