The iPhone’s LED lamp is a handy as hell. I never, ever use it for photos, but I use it as a flashlight all the time, and I have it set to flash when my iPhone gives me an alert (usually it makes my jeans pocket flash alarmingly).
Now I can use it to light up my iPhone’s whole back, if I choose to put it in the curvy Theo Light, a case that works like the Kindle Paperwhite’s magical light-up screen. And I might even start using it for photos.
The case consists of a bouncy-cornered bumper, and a rear panel that Theo calls the “Element of LIGHT,” a panel that takes the light from the iPhone’s LED and redirects it to make the entire back of the case glow like a soft-box. Theo wants to sell you extra interchangeable panels, and to this end it lets you upload a photo and have it printed onto a panel.
But I’m way more interested in the fact that the iPhone, equipped with an “Element of LIGHT,” now has a big, soft light on the back of it, perfect not only for taking more flattering portraits but also better for scanning apps, especially when snapping pictures of glossy paper.
The case also has a switch so you can slide away the light-channeling deflector and use the LED as a regular flashlight.
All this for just $30. And you can even mix’n’match the colors of the various parts as you order.
