Twelve South ButterFly SE offers innovation at a lower price

The Cult of Mac review of the original Twelve South ButterFly praised its innovative design and called it “one of the best-designed travel chargers.” But at $129.95, it’s certainly not cheap.
ButterFly SE introduced Tuesday presents the same features in a somewhat less expensive form. Like its predecessor, it looks like an oversized Oreo cookie but with the two circular halves opening to reveal iPhone and Apple Watch chargers.
The phone charger uses Qi2, the cross-platform version of MagSafe for 15W charging. It powers an Apple Watch at up to 5W.
While Twelve South wrapped the original in aluminum, it plays up the ButterFly SE’s “soft-touch finish” and its three color options: black, white and pink. That seems to indicate the casing is plastic.
While the new version comes with a 1-meter USB-C braided charging cable, there’s no wall charger. The original includes the charger and international plugs.
