Browse Craigslist Like a Newspaper with iPad App

Like a lot of people, I have mixed feelings about Craigslist. It’s like Ikea: in theory, you’d rather patronize mom-and-pop shops or get your stuff elsewhere. But somehow on a rainy Saturday afternoon: there you are.

Craigslist can be a pain to use or search – but if you’re looking for a garage sale, love connection or that elusive floor lamp with a table in it – you end up there.

That’s where app Lifelike Craig HD comes in.

The iPad version, $1.99 on iTunes, looks like a newspaper and lets you circle ads you like and cross out ads you don’t. You can also see a map for each listing and display the images in a gallery. If you’re buying and selling at the same time, you can post ads and manage multiple accounts right from the app.

Next month, developers Lifelike Apps expect to launch a universal edition compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch.

Would you pay for an easier-to-use Craigslist?

First, the iPad screenshots for that app is awesome. It has the look-and-feel of a newspaper. I like it. Second, about your quote

“Craigslist can be a pain to use or search”

I disagree with you on these two points. IMHO, I thought craiglist is simple and fast. Yet, it is TOO simple. Craigslist is for local users interaction. This is why craigslist restricts search feature to only search within one’s city. On the other spectrum, there is a web site called loudheart (see chrome web store under shopping category) that take classifieds to a different perspective. The overall design (not the user interface) is A+ while the user interfaces and performance need works! (I have it an A+ because all features are hidden behind the sign-in page. You need to log in and play around to see what I mean.) I tried backpage, ebay classifieds, and many others — all is a copycat of craigslist. I am still waiting for people to migrate to loudheart so that I can search for that special items I wanted. It has regional search! by state or county!
