A ByteSize SSD from BMX is small enough to fit snugly along the bottom of a iPhone with USB-C, adding up to 2TB of storage. The Ultra and Pro variants offer fast enough connections for recording high-res, high-frame rate ProRes video.
But what really sets the premium variant of the new portable SSDs apart from rivals is support for Apple FindMy tracking system. Plus, multiple models also include fingerprint biometric security.
BMX ByteSize SSD: Loaded with innovative features
Attaching a tiny high-speed SSD to an iPhone dramatically expands its capabilities by adding fast, reliable storage for large files without relying on cloud access or internal capacity limits. It’s especially useful for capturing ProRes video and high-resolution photos, allowing content to be recorded directly to external storage while maintaining top-tier performance.
A compact SSD also speeds up file transfers between the iPhone, Mac or iPad, streamlining workflows for creators and professionals on the go.
The BMX ByteSize Pro SSD supports 960 MBps/900 MBps data transfers, which is more than fast enough for recording 4K video at 60 Hz. And the drive offers biometric security via a built-in fingerprint scanner. It comes in 1TB or 2TB of capacity.
The ByteSize Ultra SSD offers all that, plus it supports Apple’s Find My network so it can be located almost anywhere on Earth. That’s a real bonus on an accessory this small. And it’s a feature you won’t find in other tiny SSDs.
More options
Non-professionals might be interested in the standard version of the ByteSize SSD. It offers 450 MBps/400 MBps data transfers and fingerprint security. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
While these miniature drives are intended for iPhone, of course, they can also be used with a Mac or iPad.
In addition, BMX offers a ByteSize SafeCase in a range of sizes. Depending on the model, these are designed to hold between one and five of the tiny SSDs. They also add Find My support if the case gets misplaced along with its precious cargo.
While BMX unveiled the new line of drives in time for them to be shown off during the giant CES 2026 trade show going on this week in Las Vegas, it did not reveal pricing or a release date.
Simply can’t wait? There are multiple rivals available now. The Planck SSD is also tiny and offers 4K60 ProRes video. Or there’s the iKlips S, a tiny SSD from Adam Elements. It’s not super-fast, but it does include a fingerprint scanner. Another option is the Sandisk Extreme Fit USB-C Flash Drive. It’s another wee little SSD, and it’s the most affordable of these three alternatives. Just note that none of them include Find My support.
