Shiira2Betaoverview

If you’re not too busy detailing ways to make Firefox better, you might want to contemplate a more radical shift. Shiira, the Webkit-based alt-browser put together by a team in Japan, has just made it to version 2.0, and it’s beautiful. I haven’t gotten to use it yet, so I can’t report on its performance, but the interface might just be the best on OS X. Yes, even nicer than OmniWeb. It’s free and open-source. Wow, it looks VERY promising. There are still some interface issues, particularly when you have the shelf open. I also tried moving the Safari bookmark folder to the Bookmark menu without success (it moved but did not appear on the bookmark menu, when quiting Shiira crashed.

I am looking forward to seeing this browser mature. Kudos to the developers!

What I like is the View Page Source window. It’s a website developer in-training gold mine! It breaks down the HTML, CSS, JavaScript and more into clickable links. No more playing with URLs to dig into the different related page items, just view the main page and click on the breakdown to the left. Sweet!

Thanks for pointing out this browser, it has serious potential.
