Apple introduced audio sharing to Beats Studio Pro over-ear headphones in a firmware update Tuesday, a feature already known to AirPods Max and AirPods users. So once your Beats Studio Pro update over the air to firmware version 2C301, up from version 2B68 installed at launch, you can easily share what you listen to with family and friends via a connected iPhone or iPad.

Firmware update adds Share Audio to Beats Studio Pro headphones

The version 2C301 firmware update for Beats Studio Pro headphones brings support for audio sharing, a function not available when the well-reviewed cans first hit the market just over a year ago. The capability allows two people to simultaneously listen to audio from a connected iPhone or iPad. And this comes right after the headphones came out in three new Kim Kardashian-selected colors.

Unlike Apple’s own headphone products with H-series chips, the Beats Studio Pro use a custom Beats-branded chip. Beats’ chip still provides features like one-touch pairing, Find My integration, and Siri support, but not automatic device switching. But now users get the audio sharing feature Apple’s H chips bring to its audio gear.

To update the firmware on their Beats Studio Pro headphones, owners with iOS or iPadOS devices can simply charge their headphones within Bluetooth range of an iOS device connected to a Wi-Fi network. The update will be delivered over-the-air. With Android, though, users must download the Beats app and connect the device to a power source to initiate a firmware update.

Further updates unclear, if any

Apple has not provided details on any other changes included in the 2C301 firmware release beyond the new audio sharing capability. But at least Beats Studio Pro owners can now enjoy the convenience of easily sharing their audio experience with friends and family.

Aside from the new audio sharing option, the Beats Studio Pro headphones continue to offer active noise cancellation, Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, multiple audio profiles, and improved audio quality compared to previous Beats models.
