New iPad gets 'Enable LTE' toggle.

The new iPad doesn’t go on sale until this Friday, March 16, but some lucky so and sos already have their hands on the device. This video, which is believed to be its first unboxing, was published by Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn.

As you’d expect, the clip is in Vietnamese, but it’s still pretty easy to follow. There are really no surprises here — it could almost be an iPad 2 unboxing — but the appearance of that “Enable LTE” toggle within the Settings app proves it’s a third-generation device.

Images accompanying the video on the Tinhte.vn forum show close-ups of almost every angle, and showcase the new iPad’s stunning Retina display.

I don’t know about you, but after watching this unboxing, I’m even more excited about unboxing mine on Friday.

Super excited ! Retina display makes a HUGE difference in every activity you do. I was a little unsatisfied when I got my iPad2 having spent quality time with iPhone 4 by then. This is what I was waiting for. I wish though that they would have had an edge to edge screen with no home button…that would have killed every other tablet for years ti come. but hey, this is great ! there should be something in wish list for iPad 4 :)

I have never been able to understand the desire for an edge-to-edge screen. You need to be able to grip the iPad when you use it, so at least one thumb would usually be covering part of the screen. Not good when it is a touchscreen. Also it would render most case designs useless. Smart covers would be OK, but considering they only cover the front I don’t really regard them as proper covers.

I also don’t get the wish to remove the home button. Why? You need a quick and simple way of getting back to the home screen so what could be better than a button? I suppose you could have a gesture for it, but make it a simple one and it would be too easy to do when you didn’t mean to, and too complicated and it’s a pain in the backside. A button does the job very well. Why fix what isn’t broken?

Just to add: This isn’t a moan at you AnupR. It’s a general moan! These are things I have seen mentioned elsewhere, but I don’t really understand why people would want them.

There already is a gesture to get to the home screen. Five finger pinch.

    fake! thats an ipad 2.

  5. Killer_Kadoogan says:

Thanks for that! I have a first gen iPad. Gestures got added later than the iPad 2 had them, and to be honest I have never really got used to using them. I still find using the home button easier. The only one I sometimes remember to use is the app switching gesture.

Enable LTE is on, but iPad shows 3G…

Data roaming is on, so for overseas travel from USA, at&t would be allowed to charge up to 20 USD MB when roaming on a European network.

at&t refuses to unlock the iPhone because it is subsidized – fine… the iPad is purchased at full, unsubsidized price, and thus when traveling abroad, the individual local data rates should be charged, irrespective of which SIM card is in the slot: at&t should be LEGALLY prohibited from charging usury rates for iPad data for those traveling overseas…

    OCCUPY at&t…

  7. ErinsDad says:

Unfortunately, I think AT$T is occupying us.

I didn’t understand a word they said… but i’ve never followed something so intently. Is it Friday yet

  9. Ray Goldenberg says:

FWIW, I use iphonetrip.com when I travel outside the US and on cruise ships.  It works very well on ATT iPads and iPhone.

  10. Mohamed Mesbah says:

    you are an ipad2

  11. Steve Pender says:

If a device has a strap on the back, no thumbs are needed. I look forward to bezel-less screens with a soft strap on the back for a hand to hold it. The home button already is replaced by the existing 4-finger pinch if you enable multitasking gestures.

    ” FAKE VIDEO “

If you look carefuly exactly at 0:51 Minutes, you will clearly see the iPad serial number DLXFFP53DFJ2

Plug it in Apple Support Website – https://selfsolve.apple.com/ag
    It clearly shows an ” iPad 2 3G “

Please don’t give anymore coverage to this fake video.

  14. Reivax says:

The five finger pinch is also the gesture used to shoplift iPads.
