Following this morning’s story that reveals Apple’s plans to launch a movie streaming service called iTunes Replay, one analyst believes that Apple has something more spectacular up its sleeve — a service that will take on Netflix.
Jeffries analyst Peter Masek issued a report today in which he says Apple has already made “unannounced deals” with almost all of the television and film companies that will allow the company to launch a movie streaming service to take on Amazon and Netflix.
Business Insider quotes Masek as saying:
“As part of Apple’s roll-out of cloud video services (and eventually an iTV), we believe Apple has unannounced deals with all/most of the studios/TV networks that are similar to the subscription streaming deal between Amazon and CBS.”
The report follows another story detailing Apple’s future movie plans published earlier today, in which it is claimed Apple is set to launch a service called iTunes Replay in the coming weeks that will allow users to stream the movies they’ve purchased in iTunes to their Apple TV and iOS devices.
If Apple has the deals in place to offer a Netflix-like streaming service, it’s possible iTunes Replay could offer ‘all you can eat’ subscription plans. Still, take with a grain of salt: any analyst talking about the inevitability of an “iTV” is not to be trusted without at least a dash of skepticism.

heres what i would like to see….a perfect mesh of hulu+—netflix instant—and netflix DVD—-all in a polyamorous relationship and streamin to all macs(or pc’s if you float that way) ios devices and apple tv’s….it should have every episode of shows currently on available day after airing …previous seasons,,,,new release movies….and older shows and movies!! 10 flat a month….sign me up buhbye netflix!!
I just paid $ 23.86 for an iPhone and my girlfriend loves her Dell laptop that we got for $ 38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 42 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 665 which only cost me $ 62,81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, GrabPenny.com
Hulu Plus? The service that is always stating “Availability: We currently don’t have the rights to make this show available on TV or mobile devices — request to be notified if it becomes available in Hulu Plus.”
I would like an iOS app that handles the standard Hulu web feeds that have more available content.
I can currently stream tons of old movies and TV shows from Netflix.
I can also go to the supermarket and rent new movies for $1.
Why can’t someone create a service to stream new movies for $1?
I’m more than happy to rent or stream DRM’ed video but buying it is out of the question for me.
does anyone moderate this spam on cultofmac? been seeing more and more of this lately.
You are pathetic! I don’t want to ready the dump penny auction crap here!
Flag the heck out of this. AlanRandell and Apple_Fanboy_News are both spammers. Admins, please do your job.
Would really love to see this happen – Netflix just doesn’t have the clout yet to force the studios to give them timely quality content, and it’s quite frustrating at times. Apple, on the other hand…

the only hope for this to ever work is if they FINALLY give us what everyone’s been wanting for years – an a la carte option to purchase NON-drm shows/movies that we want. to finally only have to see and buy shows and films that i want to see, and not all the cable company tiered pkg crap that’s been shoved down our throats at bloated ripoff prices for years. i don’t want to pay for espn when i don’t watch sports! i don’t want to pay for lifetime b/c it’s a blue-haired old lady station that blows, et al. i only want to pay for what i actually watch – and not a damn thing more! drm fucking blows!
at least we may finally know the full extent of why apple built a $1B data center in n.c. after all this time now!
WANT!
Check out this great apple bog for all the up to date news on everything apple!

So, will it be 4 times as expensive? Renting on iTunes is super expensive, renting on Netflix? Not so much, even WITH the price hike.
Until the nets can be convinced that th current rating system blows, you aren’t likely to get everything and definitely not cheap. try more like $30 a month with day after for the big five and week after for the rest. If you are lucky.
That said, if it was $50 a month for unlimited downloads of the rental files (so I can watch offline) for all nets including HBO, Showtime etc in the iTunes HD format, mix and match all devices, no more than a week after OTA it would still be cheaper than my cable bill so I’d go for it.
No. Bogs are filthy.
Nice to see a more realistic approach being written about rather than the morons last week saying Apple should buy Netflix.
I do wish Apple acquired the rights to the iTV brand…so smooth :)
Apple is just a big patent troll bullie that lock the products customers buy. I won’t touch there products with a ten foot pole. There products are good but that doesn’t matter at all to me.
