Apple is getting set to launch a brand new service that will compliment iCloud called iTunes Replay. The service will allow users to re-download and possibly stream movies they have previously purchased through iTunes, and could go public within the coming weeks.

AppAdvice says that they are able to “confirm independently” the information given by their source regarding the new service, which is known as iTunes Replay internally and is expected to launch under the same name:

In a nutshell, iTunes Replay is an extension to what Apple is already doing with iCloud and free re-downloads of previously purchased content. As Apple secures the remaining rights, TV Shows as well as Movies in iTunes will be given little arrow indicating whether they’re “iTunes Replay eligible”, that is, available to be downloaded subsequent times. Note that some content will unfortunately only be available to download five times and we don’t know how streaming will count towards that limit.

The service will allow users to access movies they’ve purchased since January 1 2009, which they will be able to stream to their Apple TV, and “probably” their iOS devices as well. The changes are currently being “pushed to Apple’s servers at the moment,” and we should therefore expect the service to go live in the coming weeks.

AppAdvice notes that music may also be incorporated under the iTunes Replay name, separating the service from iCloud to make them two different products that are easier to market.

Apple already added the ability to stream TV shows you’ve purchased to your Apple TV earlier this week, and to me, iTunes Replay sounds like it’s very much the same thing, but for your movies. Will Apple’s recent feature for re-downloading our previously purchased content just be separated from iCloud and renamed iTunes Replay?
