Looks like we’ve got some wear issues on the Apple Watch, especially the Space Gray ones. There are posts on Reddit and the Apple Discussion Forums that show both the Apple logo and actual text etched into the back of the watches peeling off.

Apple Discussions user dougie70w says that he bought his Apple Watch at the beginning of June “and the band started to peel part so bad that I replaced it with an after market metal band that I purchaced on Amazon.”

He’s got an appointment at a local Apple Store today and hopes that having Apple Care will let him get a replacement.

Reddit user eternitydia posted his own Apple Watch (again in Space Gray) to show the Apple logo disappearing, saying, “Looks like the Apple had (sic) been eaten…”

Another Reddit user, RyMiDo, asks, “The apple logo fell out of my watch… Has anyone seen this before?”

One user told AppleInsider that Apple has contacted them and promised a replacement for their Apple Watch in return for the old one. The Apple Watch owner was asked, they said, about climate, activity levels, and whether it had been immersed in water. The representative from Apple also said that this was only reported on space gray Sport models.

My Sport model isn’t space gray, and I don’t see the type of wear on mine, nor do any of the staffers at Cult of Mac. It could be the way the text and logo is printed on the space gray model.

Whatever the case, if you’re seeing this on your own Apple Watch, be sure to contact Apple to see if they will replace it.

This is huge. Let’s get Al Franken on the phone and bring this issue before congress.

  4. CJBJ says:

That’s funny cause mine did the same thing about a month ago. Didn’t think it was a big deal but I guess if they are replacing them with new ones.

Don’t really look at the back of mine much. Took it off and sure enough, most of the Apple logo is gone.
I’m your typical sedentary sysadmin. No adverse conditions of any kind. Dunked it under the faucet as per directions to de-gunk the Digital Crown 2 or 3 times since I got it and that’s about it.

Its like my Magic Mouse. On the left side where you have your thumb the material have more or less dissolved. Acid sweat?

  7. xared says:

    Pathetic.
    “You are wearing it wrong.”
Come on Apple. Dont you have internal testing anymore?

Been wearing mine for over 2 months, and in the shower. The logo is fine on mine.

Its hard to see how you’d get wear where the logo is, as the sensor right next to it is dome-shaped.
Do the people with these issues have very fat wrists? Do they wear the watch super-tight? What sort of watch stand (if any) do they use?

Geez, what are they gonna call this? LogoGate? I’m sorry, but I can’t bring myself to take my Watch to an Apple Store because my logo is wearing off (and it is, incidentally). I’d just feel silly.

I didn’t even know there was an Apple logo on the back until reading this.
    Apple is certainly doomed now!

OMGosh this is so ridiculous. It is called wear and tear. I remember this with the the iPods stainless steel back getting scratched. BFD. These materials are not self healing. They look nice, but also need TLC. This is a non issue. I have a stainless steel watch and I see little marks on it too. Physics is physics. Do people not know the difference?

Worn mine every day since release, swim every weekend with it on and didn’t even take it off to work on my motorcycle engine. Space gray and no wear at all….at all.
