Apple just began offering refurbished units of the Apple Watch Series 8 and SE 2. Both wearables launched in autumn 2022, and shoppers can save as much as $80 by choosing a refurb unit.

These are primarily devices that consumers bought then returned so supplies are limited.

Apple Watch Series 8 and SE 2 refurbs come with sweet discounts

Buying a brand new Apple product feels nice and reassuring. But there’s also a lot to be said for saving money, and choosing a refurb unit will let you do that. Just be aware, buyers can only choose from the colors and band combinations that Apple has in stock.

Apple Watch Series 8 builds on its predecessor by adding a temperature sensor for tracking women’s health. Other improvements include a brighter display and car crash detection.

The 41mm version ordinarily sells for $499, but a refurbished unit bought from Apple is $419, a savings of $80. The 45mm version ordinarily goes for $529, while a refurb is $449. Again, that’s $80 off.

The Apple Watch SE 2 is already aimed at budget buyers, and refurbished units are an even better deal. The regular cost is $329 but Apple offers refurbs at $279 — that’s $50 off.

Before anyone asks, no, there are no Apple Watch Ultra refurb units available yet.

What is ‘refurbished’?

When someone buys a product from Apple then returns it, it is resold after going through a refurbishment process.

Apple says each unit comes with a “one-year warranty, free delivery and returns.” It’s cleaned and undergoes full functional testing, then gets repackaged with appropriate manuals and cables.
