Quanta is reportedly set to enter trial production of the Apple Watch 2 by the end of this month, with a likely launch around April. That means we’d see the sequel wearable just a year after Apple introduced the product line.

If reports are correct, Apple is sticking with the same manufacturer that produced the first-generation Apple Watch. In a previous report, it was suggested that Apple may also call in the services of Inventec, Wistron and Foxconn Electronics — all companies it has previously worked with — to help build the follow-up smartwatch.

That Apple would stick with Quanta isn’t too much of a surprise given that Quanta chairman Barry Lam publicly commented that an Apple Watch 2 is very much in the works.

Previous rumors suggested the Apple Watch 2 will retain the same size, shape and resolution as its predecessor, but will feature a larger battery, added FaceTime camera and greater independence from the iPhone. Additional high-end models costing $1,000-plus are also supposedly in the pipeline.

Excited? No. I wish I were.

Quite. I had a gen 1 for about a month but couldn’t fit it into a Florida lifestyle (lots of water). Hoping the gen2 is sexier and more water proof.

      its waterproof, no?

      • Jeff Stiefer says:

its water resistant. some people are actually swimming with theirs but thats pushing it.

        from apple’s support article…

“Your Apple Watch is splash and water resistant, but not waterproof.* For example, you may wear and use your Apple Watch during exercise (exposure to sweat is OK), in the rain, and while washing your hands.”

yeah I knew to not get the gen 1 as tempting as it was (I had just gotten a bonus at work). Put in retrospect the iPhone 3G just dominated the original iPhone which is why with Apple you never ever get the first gen of anything no matter what. I refuse to get the iPad pro until the next one comes out even though it has slightly handicapped me work-wise (I just have to work harder, and utilize a few of my employees more often that not)

Hey they don’t advertise it as waterproof but it is rated IPx7 so it can be submerged. They would not say hey it’s waterproof! take a dunk! *deliberately* I did swim with it at the sea while using it control the music on our small boat. (Touch screens are horrible when wet tho) You also have to submerge it in the bath sink with clean water after use at sea to rinse away the salt. My Apple Watch stood up to the submersion.

What we need is a FASTER processor. Battery life is fine. The apps are VERY slow and often force quit so there is not really a single app that I use on the watch besides the glances.

What we need also are NEW WATCH FACES. The stock watch faces are SO ugly!!! Look at all the android watch faces! I don’t care if its not apple style but they are beautiful to look at! I HATE the current watch faces.

I don’t need another facetime camera looking at me. I don’t need any of the “sub par” health stuff. I turned off the HR scanning and all motion activity logging. I know I exercised. Thank you!

I waited for Gen2, if it has any reasonable fixes/improvements/new features, i’ll be getting one and I don’t think I’m the only person with that mindset.

  5. Chris Jones says:

I held off on the Gen 1 to let others be the guinea pig. My father bought one and was underwhelmed at first but with the OS updates has been happier. It’s still a LOT of money to spend on a watch for someone like me that doesn’t wear a watch now. Decisions, decisions…

  6. that was why i returned the apple watches i bought for xmas — i expected the 2 to be out in april and i surmise it will not pair with iphone, but will have facetime, findmywatch feature, etc .. i’m glad i’m waiting! yes, i am an #applehead. wink.

  7. GladiatorJohn says:

    Whatever. take my money.

  8. Jeff Stiefer says:

i really wanted to wait until the 2nd get to get one but a situation arose where i had to get one of the first gens; and I’ve been really happy with it. I am going to be bummed by at least one or 2 new features, I’m sure.

  9. Andrea P. Longoni says:

I need it to be completely waterproof.

    • KingArt says:

It is waterproof. Never had an issue swimming at the sea. Just don’t dive/scuba dive with it. You cannot interact with the screen underwater anyway. Wear a regular sports watch if you do water sports other than boating/swimmng!
