Among many other software releases, Apple issued an update to the Apple TV 2 today.

While the release can be included in the iOS 5-related slew of updates, this latest version actually brings the Apple TV to iOS 4.4. The update includes AirPlay mirroring for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, Photo Stream support, iTunes Move Trailers, NHL GameCenter, and Wall Street Journal Live.

Photo Stream on the Apple TV uses iCloud to wirelessly sync the camera roll from your iPhone or iPad to your Apple TV. Trailers works like the new App Store app to serve up HD trailers from iTunes. NHL GameCenter adds another paid sports subscription to the basketball and baseball options that Apple added in March. Wall Street Journal Live offers business commentary and financial analysis streamed to your Apple TV.

Apple also addressed some bugs and security vulnerabilities in this latest update.

You can update your Apple TV 2 to iOS 4.4 today. Let us know what you think!

Pity is doesn’t support 1080p yet. Main reason not to be buying this one!

  2. MacHead says:

Why wont they just call it 5.0 its so damn weird having aTV and the rest of the ios devices use different numbers

  3. MacHead says:

Also, what will happen if we try to airplay 1080p content we shoot from the new 4S will it send it at 720 or will it not let you airplay it at all?

  6. Mr_Kane says:

ok, nice, but what about the 1st Generation Apple TV – that supported the mobile-me galleries quite nice, will it get an update as well? otherwise…

  7. ih8ie6 says:

I really wish Apple would give you the option to disable some of these. I’m not remotely interested in American sports- being Australian.

  8. Ipodteacher says:

After trying to update the apple tv now shows an iTunes logo with a mini USB connection. How do I plug my apple tv in using USB and why would I have to? Haven’t seen that in an update before.

    Failed update.

Damn, still no HBO go even though Roku just got it. I won’t even mention xbox 360 getting it…. oops guess i just did…

  11. Clinton Verley says:

It will be downgraded to 720p but will still play.

  12. Anothersphere says:

Why dont apple let us turn off things we dont want? I guess its the terms of contract with the 3rd parties to annoy all those not interested in American centric sports. I dont even know (or care really) if I can even use MLB in my non US territory.

I’m getting the same thing. How do we fix this? Anyone?

  14. Christopher Holcomb says:

Is anyone else having a problem where you select AirPlay mirroring on the iPad2 and it shows up on the tv for about 10 seconds then quits steaming and goes back to the apple tv screen?

  15. ZouKou says:

I m having a problem with the optical out when i connect it to Digital to Analog Converter and i stream via Airplay. One optical cable doesn’t work, another one works but the sound is like it comes from the depths of the abyss.
    Any idea with that?

  16. Jane555 says:

    WOW, seems cool!
And just read the iOS 5 200 new features, the ability to play 1080p vids really makes me exciting! Then maybe I don’t need to do so much converting with iFunia. Maybe could make the Apple TV to be a HTV centre. That’s so great!

  17. Tgearheart says:

Downloaded update, WSJ live is a joke, took for ever to download one episode.

  18. Mark English says:

Me too – turn mirroring on, then try and play a movie. Tried playing the following on the iPad: YouTube, video, embedded video in web page, and all the same result. The movie played for about 10 seconds. Also error reported.

  19. Daniel Pasker says:

    I have the same issue.
