Just five days after submitting its complain to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Apple has been granted ownership of the iPad3.com domain name. The address was reportedly transferred to Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, a legal firm that has represented Apple in the past, within the last 24 hours.
According to The Next Web, the WIPO complaint is still active on the UDRP website, which suggests the organization is yet to issue a ruling on the case, and that the domain’s previous owner was happy to hand it over to Apple promptly, without a fight. However, visiting the domain continues to lead you to a counterfeit goods store called VIP Replica.
When WIPO has issued a ruling, the status of completed complaints usually changes to “Terminated.”
It appears that the original owner of iPad3.com, a company called Global Access located in the Isle of Man, has a habit of obtaining that include other companies’ trademarks. It was previously lost domains to both AOL and Mastercard.
