Apple’s $1,599 27-inch Studio Display will reportedly get a big upgrade in 2026. Since its launch in 2022, Apple has not updated its display lineup.
Next year, the company plans to launch a Studio Display refresh, though it will apparently feature the same design as the current model.
Studio Display 2 should arrive next year
Apple’s monitor lineup consists of the $5,000 32-inch Pro Display XDR, which launched in 2019, and the 27-inch Studio Display.
Display analyst Ross Young recently claimed the next Studio Display refresh will switch to a mini-LED panel. This will allow for better contrast, deeper blacks, and higher brightness while lowering power consumption. He indicated the refresh might launch “later this year or early next year.”
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has now shared more details about the upcoming Studio Display’s launch in his latest Power On newsletter. Codenamed J427, the monitor will launch in 2026, featuring “roughly the same size screen.” Apple will seemingly position the monitor as the perfect companion for its upcoming M5 MacBook Pro lineup. The latter should launch in October or November this year.
Pro Display XDR may not get an upgrade
With a Studio Display refresh expected next year, you might wonder — what about the Pro Display XDR, Apple’s flagship monitor? Gurman says Apple is not working on a Pro Display XDR refresh on a priority. This is due to its high price tag, which puts it out of reach for most customers.
He believes Apple will “probably eventually” get around to offering a bigger iMac, replacing the Pro Display XDR. The company previously offered a 27-inch iMac Pro. However, with the Apple silicon refresh, it ditched the 27-inch variant, sticking with only the 24-inch model.
