The new Apple Sports app version 3.0 dropped Wednesday, packing significant improvements that should make following your favorite teams and matches easier than ever on iPhone. The update brings a redesigned home screen with more personalization, some new baseball features and, more importantly for certain sports fans, new coverage of professional tennis — just in time for Wimbledon!
Apple Sports app redesign adds personalized home screen, tennis coverage and more
The Apple Sports app, launched in early 2024 to bring users scores and stats across teams and leagues quickly and easily, has seen a few updates since. Now, the most noticeable change in version 3.0 comes with the app’s revamped home section. It replaces the previous “My Leagues” interface with a more intuitive design. Upcoming games are now organized by league, making it easier to scan through different sports at a glance.
And the update brings new customization options. Users can now reorder sections to prioritize the sports they care about most, ensuring their preferred leagues appear at the top of the feed. Starred teams will always remain prominently displayed at the top, regardless of how you arrange other sections.
This personalized approach means basketball fans can prioritize NBA coverage during the season. Soccer enthusiasts can ensure Premier League matches appear first. So the flexibility allows each user to create a tailored experience that matches their sporting interests.
With Wimbledon underway, tennis arrives with premium tournament coverage

The addition of professional tennis support comes at a great time, with the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament currently underway in England. It started Monday. Apple Sports now provides comprehensive coverage of both men’s and women’s singles matches across Grand Slam tournaments and other professional events.
The tennis experience maintains Apple’s attention to detail and premium feel. Match backgrounds feature realistic depictions of court surfaces, whether grass for Wimbledon or clay for the French Open. Beyond live scores, users can access detailed statistics for current matches and review previous game records for both players.
Tournament tracking has been thoughtfully implemented. It lets fans follow a player’s complete journey from early rounds through to the finals. Apple promises that scores update live as soon as matches begin, making it the fastest way to track every point as it happens.

Enhanced integration across Apple devices
Tennis matches can be added as Live Activities, bringing real-time scores directly to your iPhone Lock Screen and Apple Watch Smart Stack. Each Live Activity card is customized to display the most relevant information for the specific sport being followed.
The update also brings improvements to baseball coverage. New pitcher and batter matchup information now gets displayed prominently at the top of every scoreboard. That gives fans deeper insight into key player dynamics during games.
Availability and access
Apple Sports remains a free download from the App Store. Availability is still limited to iPhone users in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Since launch, the app has provided comprehensive coverage of scores, statistics, standings and upcoming games across multiple professional leagues.
The latest update reinforces Apple’s commitment to creating a premium sports-following experience that takes advantage of the company’s ecosystem integration.
