Apple rolled out version 3.1 of its Sports app Monday, delivering expanded soccer content with the UK’s FA Cup and making the application available to users in Mexico for the first time.
The update arrives just in time for the FA Community Shield match and marks another significant milestone in the app’s rapid evolution.
Apple Sports app adds FA soccer coverage and debuts in Mexico
Apple Sports launched in February 2024 and has seen numerous updates since. The latest update, version 3.1, introduces support for the FA Community Shield, England’s traditional season opener that pits the Premier League champions against the FA Cup winners.
This year’s match on Sunday, August 10, will feature Liverpool Football Club, who secured their record-equaling 20th top-flight league title in April, taking on Crystal Palace, who claimed their first-ever FA Cup victory in a dramatic final against Manchester City in May. The match will take place at Wembley Stadium in London.
Mexico expansion opens doors for Liga MX coverage
Mexican iPhone users can now download Apple Sports for the first time, bringing the total number of supported regions to four alongside the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
This expansion allows Liga MX fans to track their local teams throughout the Apertura 2025 season and follow the summer’s Leagues Cup competition, which features 36 clubs from both Liga MX and Major League Soccer.
Enhanced statistics and box scores
Beyond geographic expansion, version 3.1 introduces more detailed box score information, giving users deeper insights into player performance statistics in real-time.
This enhancement aligns with Apple’s ongoing mission to transform the app from a simple live score tracker into a comprehensive sports information hub.
Continuous improvement since launch
This marks Apple’s 24th update to the Sports app in just over a year, demonstrating the company’s commitment to rapid iteration and user feedback incorporation. The most recent major update in June brought a redesigned home screen layout and added tennis support, while the 3.0 release in July introduced a revamped design focused on making favorite sports and matches more accessible.
Apple Sports remains free to download from the App Store and requires iOS 17.2 or later. The app provides scores, statistics, standings, upcoming games, and links to live coverage and Apple News content across various leagues and sports.
