An Apple retail store in Charlotte, North Carolina has closed its doors, reportedly because there were too many shootings nearby.

The Mac-maker says it plans to replace it with a new Charlotte store in 2024.

Apple Northlake Mall in Charlotte, NC now permanently closed

Local news reports several shootings in Charlotte’s Northlake Mall in recent months. There was one on December 15, 2022. Another on Sunday, February 5. The most recent was the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 28.

That was apparently enough for Apple. Its retail store in the mall abruptly closed on March 1, according to Bloomberg.

The official webpage for Apple Northlake Mall says, “In preparation for a new store we plan to open in the Charlotte area early next year, we will be permanently closing Wednesday, March 1st at 4pm.”

The company had not previously planned to close the store. “The shootings at the mall contributed to the decision,” reports Bloomberg.

The employees of the store are not losing their jobs. They can continue to work at another retail location also in Charlotte, Apple SouthPark. Working from home for Apple Store Online is also an option.
