Apple is reportedly upgrading the technologies used for printing its logo onto devices, using new laser-cutting and embedding technologies that will give the logo a 3-D appearance that will “shine at the edges.”
This logo is apparently set to feature on all new Apple products from next year, beginning with the the next-generation iMac.
While Apple has periodically upgraded its logo over the years — from the original Newton crest designed by Ronald Wayne, to Rob Janoff’s rainbow Apple icon, through the black, white and chrome variations — it’s a more arduous process than you might think.
Currently Apple ships around 12 million to 13 million MacBooks, 4 million to 5 million iMacs, 75 million iPads and a whopping 180 million iPhones per year. As a result, the company is handling the “logo upgrade plan carefully,” according to Digitimes sources.
Here’s a look at how the Apple logo has evolved over the years:

so they go flat on the software but..
Yep and now we don’t have to worry about the protruding lens being the only surface sticking out. Im okay with it though I rarely take it out of the case.
False. The logo on the back of the mac cannot have metal behind it, because it would kill the WiFi. Mark my words.
The back is already made of metal, it doesn’t change anything if there are two different materials.
You’re not following. The plastic logo does not have metal behind it, and that’s where the WiFi signal passes from. The antenna is right behind it. If they put metal behind the logo as well, no WiFi.
You are not following the concept that they have already moved the wifi antennas. The antennas are not in the logo anymore, that was only the first gen iPad. They can move the Antennas elsewhere on the desktops as well.
for macs and mac portables, i think the antenna is located around the bevel of the screen. so basically, radio signals can pass through the material within the screen unless the screen is all metal.
The WiFi/Bluetooth antenna of MacBook is not hide behind Apple logo either. It’s placed under the black plastic hinge that connects the cover plate (screen) and the body. Check ifixit.com for further info.
I am talking about the iMac. https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2309+and+2374+Teardown/1236#s6704
There. Behind the apple. As I said before, not going to happen. Never. Ever.
I don’t get it from this picture? Does the silver metal on the outside go inside the top of the case? If so, then the black part may still be flush. Or is that entire metal shape around the apple going on the outside?
