Apple is reportedly upgrading the technologies used for printing its logo onto devices, using new laser-cutting and embedding technologies that will give the logo a 3-D appearance that will “shine at the edges.”

This logo is apparently set to feature on all new Apple products from next year, beginning with the the next-generation iMac.

While Apple has periodically upgraded its logo over the years — from the original Newton crest designed by Ronald Wayne, to Rob Janoff’s rainbow Apple icon, through the black, white and chrome variations — it’s a more arduous process than you might think.

Currently Apple ships around 12 million to 13 million MacBooks, 4 million to 5 million iMacs, 75 million iPads and a whopping 180 million iPhones per year. As a result, the company is handling the “logo upgrade plan carefully,” according to Digitimes sources.

Here’s a look at how the Apple logo has evolved over the years:

so they go flat on the software but..

  3. False. The logo on the back of the mac cannot have metal behind it, because it would kill the WiFi. Mark my words.

I don’t get it from this picture? Does the silver metal on the outside go inside the top of the case? If so, then the black part may still be flush. Or is that entire metal shape around the apple going on the outside?
