As always on the third Monday in January, Apple’s homepage honors the memory of slain Civil Rights Movement leader Martin Luther King Jr.

It’s his national holiday. And this year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day you can download a free book that collects the man’s greatest writings.

On Monday, Apple’s homepage shows a portrait of King, above, with a caption: “Dr. King in a quiet moment as he prepares to speak in Montgomery, Alabama, 1965.”

But the quote from King with the image comes from a speech six years before that. It says, “Because of our involvement in humanity, we must be concerned about every human being.”

The quote comes from a 1959 commencement address King delivered at Morehouse College in Atlanta, entitled, “Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution.” Speaking on the subject of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision and outlining accomplishments of the Civil Rights Movement, King urged students to concern themselves with all lives, not just their own ambitions.

Apple CEO Tim Cook also paid tribute to King on Monday. “Dr. King wrote that ‘because of our involvement in humanity we must be concerned about every human being,'” Cook wrote on X. “Today, we celebrate his life, honor his legacy, and aspire to walk in his footsteps.”

On its homepage, Apple adds, “We honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and reflect on his legacy of service to all.”

Marking the holiday this year, Apple offers a free download of The Essential Martin Luther King, Jr. on Apple Books. It’s a collection of King’s greatest speeches and sermons.
