Apple Music’s matching software has a terrible history of replacing artists’ live songs with a studio version, but that will finally be a thing of the past, thanks the addition of audio fingerprints from iTunes Match.
A quiet rollout of the iTunes Match audio fingerprint to all Apple Music subscriber is currently underway, fixing the less accurate metadata version of iTunes Match that was currently used on Apple Music.
“If you had songs that were matched incorrectly using the metadata version of iTunes Match, the new version will rematch to the correct song,” reports The Loop. “However, it will not delete any downloaded copies of songs you have in your library.”
Apple Music subscribers don’t have to do anything to get the new version of iTunes Match, as Apple is automatically switching 1 to 2 percent of users over everyday.
Users will now see a “Matched” status in the iCloud column of iTunes on Mac once you’ve been switched over. If you currently have subscriptions to both iTunes Match and Apple Music, you can let the iTunes Match subscription lapse and shouldn’t notice any changes.

I let my iTunes Match subscription lapse ages ago and didn’t notice any changes. If I put a track that wasn’t on Apple Music it uploaded and synced it to all my other devices. I guess the only thing that I lost was the ability to match to a 256kbps track already in the iTunes database? I didn’t really see much use for that anyway as I always had high quality tracks.
