New iPhone 14 Plus service program offers free repair for camera problem

Apple will fix iPhone 14 Plus models with a camera problem for free through a service program that launched Friday. The company says the “rear camera on a very small percentage of iPhone 14 Plus devices may exhibit no preview.”

Affected iPhone 14 Plus units get a free repair

Apple started selling the iPhone 14 Plus in October 2022. However, the camera problem only appears on devices manufactured between April 10, 2023, and April 28, 2024. If you notice previews sometimes go missing for photos taken with your iPhone 14 Plus rear camera, your device likely needs the fix. The problem only affects the iPhone 14 Plus and not the regular model.

If your device might be defective, you can confirm it by running your iPhone’s serial number through Apple’s checker tool on the service program page. If affected, take your iPhone to the nearest Apple Store or authorized service provider for a free repair.

Apple notes that if your iPhone has any physical damage that might hinder the camera repair, you must get it fixed first. (You will need to pay for that repair.) Then, the company will fix the camera problem for free afterward. In some cases, Apple might limit the unit’s repair to the original country of purchase.

The service program runs worldwide and will cover the iPhone 14 Plus for three years from the date of purchase. However, this does not extend the phone’s standard warranty. If you already paid for a similar repair, you can contact Apple for a refund. You must have the original repair invoice, though.
