Apple could be about to add an additional supplier to its iPad 2 chain as the company continues to deal with overwhelming demand of the second-generation device and tackle backlight bleeding problems with early models.

Coretronic, an LCD backlight maker, is set to add Apple’s iPad 2 to its huge list of clients. The Taiwanese supplier reportedly made 35% of backlight modules for LED TVs in the first quarter of 2011 – which is expected to rise up to 40% in the second – and is now working with Chimei Innolux to provide these components to Apple, according to a DigiTimes report.

Chimei was only certified by Apple back in May of this year, and up until now backlight modules for the iPad 2 have been supplied by LG Display. However, a vast number of early adopters have reported issues with backlight bleeding or light leaks.

A report back in April revealed Apple was testing a new LED backlight from Everlight Electronics in order to expand its iPad 2 supply chain, however, it’s currently unknown whether the two companies agreed to do business.
