The Chief Information Officer for AstraZenica jumped ship to Apple. David Smoley is now a vice president for the iPhone maker, but reportedly hasn’t joined any of this company’s healthcare-related projects.
AstraZenica is a pharmaceutical maker but Smoley isn’t a doctor. He received a degree in Computer Science from Clemson, and has an MBA from the University of Virginia.
During his six years at the the drug manufacturer, the executive cut the business’ information technology costs. “While partnering closely with the business to drive tech innovation, Mr. Smoley reduced IT spending by more than 48% over three years achieving the team’s stated ambition of being ‘twice as good for half the cost’”, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Now already at Apple, Smoley reports to Mary Demby, Apple’s Chief Information Officer, according to Bloomberg.
He’s long been a proponent of cloud computing, and therefore could be much involved in the iCloud service.
