Apple might be slow to jump on the AI bandwagon, but internally, the company “runs on Anthropic at this point.” Apparently, the company was also ready to rebuild Siri around Claude, but the deal fell through at the last moment.
“Anthropic is powering a lot of the stuff Apple’s doing internally in terms of product development and a lot of their internal tools,” revealed Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman in the TBPN’s Technology’s daily show.
Apple really wanted to power next-gen Siri with Claude
Earlier this month, Apple quietly announced that it will use Google Gemini to power next-gen Siri. Prior reports suggested Apple was considering Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT to improve the Siri experience, with Google nowhere in the picture.
Appearing on the TBPN’s daily technology show, Bloomberg‘s Managing Editor Mark Gurman provided further insight into Apple’s AI use and its initial plans for AI-powered Siri. Surprisingly, many of the new AI features in Apple’s Creator Studio bundle are powered by OpenAI.
Internally, Apple’s team has gone all-in on Anthropic, using it for product development and internal tools. The company apparently has Claude running on in-house servers for their use.
Bloomberg’s @markgurman says that even though Apple partnered with Google Gemini for Siri, they actually run their business on Anthropic.

Claude stands out for its coding and agentic capabilities. That explains why Apple is using it instead of ChatGPT for development work.
Anthropic wanted too much money
Apple even wanted to go with Claude for the AI Siri. However, Anthropic “wanted a crap ton of money.” Apparently, several billion dollars a year, which doubled on an annual basis for the next three years.
Due to this, Apple was forced to reconsider its options. At the time, Google Gemini was nowhere in the picture, especially with an ongoing court case over both companies due to their search deal.
This changed with the release of Gemini 3 in November 2025, which made impressive gains. That was enough to put Google firmly back in contention and ultimately seal the deal, especially since it also accepted Apple’s financial terms.
