Apple has today announced that App Store sales topped a whopping $10 billion in 2013, with over $1 billion made during December alone. Almost three billion apps were downloaded during the final month of the year, making it the most successful month in App Store history.

Apple also announced that it has now paid over $15 billion to App Store developers.

“We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, in the company’s press release. “The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

Some of 2013’s biggest App Store successes include Candy Crush Saga, Puzzles & Dragons, Minecraft, QuizUp, and Clumsy Ninja — all of which were built by international developers. Apple says that developers like Duolingo, Simogo, Frogmind, and Plain Vanilla Corp are just a few of those worth watching in 2014.

The App Store is now available in 155 countries worldwide, serving more than one million titles across 24 categories — 500,000 of which are native iPad apps.
