Is Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek huffing the magic hallucinogen jay bone? He claims that Apple canceled an iPad 2 HD, despite having already built a million of them, but also, that Apple will be launching the iPad 3 in January. What?
In a research note posted today, Misek said that the iPad 3 would have a “sooner-than-expected” launch in late January. It’s not exactly clear why he thinks the iPad 3 will launch months early, or why Apple would release a new tablet in a month when almost everyone is broke from Christmas, but… well, whatever.
The iPad 2 HD claim is just bizarre though. According to Misek, a million iPad 2 HD units with Retina Displays were produced, but have since been retooled as just plain iPad 2s. But not only is there seemingly no supply chain evidence for that, but it’s not even entirely clear that LG and Samsung will be able to ramp up production enough for an iPad 3 with a Retina Display in April of next year.
Take with a degree of skepticism, folks. This all reads like some sort of weird paint huffing.

Thats insane. 1 million iPads at a $350 build cost is literally flushing $350 million down the toilet. That makes 0 sense. Sure they have a lot of cash, but that’s still a substantial enough amount to raise eyebrows. If anything, Apple would have released the 1 million as a limited edition or promo or something.Â
doubtful
Right AFTER the holiday shopping season, when everyone is broke? Unlikely, unless they expect people to sell all the shiny toys they got for Christmas to finance the new purchase.
They didn’t flush it down the toilet according to the article. They just re-tooled it, as in swapped out the display/internals to function just like the current iPad 2. A loss, but not total.
This is what happens when you believe every piece of garbage. Earlier this week, CNBC was reporting issues at Apple – which caused it’s stock to go downward. The next morning, it was reported that the previous days Apple brouhaha was based on MISinformation coming out of China (no surprise).
‘The sky is falling,’ right?
I believe what I get as FACT. Whoever this Misek is, he DOESN’T have the ‘inside scoop’ on ‘all things Apple.’ if it sounds like horse-shit….
What I think Mr. Misek’s purpose is, is not altruistic – trying to influence market for whatever purpose he’s got.
File this in the waste bin, Chicken Little. ?
Why listen to analysts drivel when they’re usually never right when it comes to correctly guessing at Apple rumors.
What the heck is “the magic hallucinogen jay bone.”???
Ah – Jeffries & Co. – bought up all the defaulted mortgages….Yes, they are definitely NOT the ones to listen to.
How quickly people forget.
Apple once used the January MacWorld Expo format to launch many new products. That method did not seem to dampen their sales one bit.Â
This reeks of someone trying to cover up that he was wrong about his claims
My guess is that there never was an iPad 2hd and any work on a retina screen was always for a spring 2012 iPad 3
oh this is hilarious..these analysts realized there wont be another ipad getting released this year after the “Let’s talk iPhone” invitation, now they want to make up some random BS to avoid embarrassment. sad.
A psilocybin laced joint.
