There may be mixed reactions to Apple’s unveiling the iPhone 4S, featuring a ‘world phone’, improved antennas, better camera and the Siri voice-activated personal assistant. While the announcement was impressive, what wasn’t said could leave some Apple fans disappointed, according to analysts.
The iPhone 4S “was quite impressive, particularly the new features like the new cameras and Siri personal assistant,” Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu told us. He said there could be a “slight” disappointment because some people were hoping Apple would introduce a handset with a larger screen.
Apple shares fell 5 percent soon after CEO Tim Cook concluded the press conference. The downturn may have signaled overall customer disappointment in the message as well as the messenger. Many had listened to weeks of rumors suggesting the new iPhone would sport a larger display, as well as unibody construction. However, the presentation focused mainly on iOS 5, Apple’s Cloud initiative and Siri.
Despite the misgivings, Apple should do well, according to independent analyst Andy Zaky. The Cupertino, Calif. company will sell “at least 30 million iPhones” during the first quarter of fiscal 2012, he said. “This current environment will prove to present one of the best buying opportunities for Apple since the lows of the fiscal crises,” according to the analyst. “From a numbers perspective, the stock has never been more undervalued since Steve Jobs returned to the company,” Zaky says.

Right from the start Tim Cook seemed to get the tone wrong, welcoming people to Apple’s Town Hall. Town Hall? Hardly cool. Can you imagine Steve talking about a Town Hall? Where Apple have really gone wrong is allowing speculation for months that iPhone5 was coming, and then just unveiling an improved version of iPhone4. It’s probably a great phone but I am disappointed. I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on what Analysts think. Most the time they don’t get it. What really matters is what Apple’s customers think.
It looks like a great phone to me. Not sure how Apple is supposed to deal with all the speculation they have nothing to do with. Not even sure that a bigger screen would be better. Given a choice, I like the current size and would buy a 4 over a 5 anyway.

And you are right that what really matters is what the customers think. So perhaps we should wait to judge this event until launch day arrives. That way we aren’t looking at the group of folks that believed the rumors and were disappointed they were wrong and sold their stock but rather the actual buyers. When no one shows up to buy this lame excuse for a new phone, we’ll see the true disappointment
The only way Apple can deal with the speculation is if they tell all in advance. As in right now telling us what they are releasing next year, in detail and exactly when. Nothing held back.
and while they are at it they need to tell us every detail of Steve Jobs health including the times and dates of every doctor’s appointment and the day he is going to kick it. We have a right to know, and then it would end all the rumors about just how dying he is
So, Apple release a phone with completely in internal components, new iOS, Dual core graphics and Dual core SOC, iCloud, 64GB iPhone 4s at same price as the original 4 32GB and they are “falling from their ivory tower” Holly fucking shit man, get a grip.
The only people who will benefit from the 4S is the people who are on sprint or those who want to switch to sprint.
the shape of the iPhone 3gs is better than the iPhone 4 also nexus prime will be better than the iPhone 4 ill just keep my iPad 2 and my smart phone will be the Verizon nexus prime. only thing keeping me at all with apple at this point is apps. this was the biggest disappointment ever

I have to admit… i am disappointed with the latest announcement. I was looking forward to an iPhone 5 with a slimmer, rounded corner form factor, true 4G capabilities. Additionally, i find myself un-moved by the lack of charisma of Tim Cook, here certainly is no Steve Jobs… but then again whom else is.

iPhone 4S is a great phone, a big improvement over my 3Gs. If I had an iPhone 4 I would be less excited. Disappointment is probably proportional to how often one reads rumors?
At first I was a little disappointed that there is no iPhone 5 and only a 4S. But after thinking about it, it’s really not bad at all. The only thing that hasn’t changed is how the phone looks, which IMHO, isn’t anything to be disappointed about. The iPhone 4 / 4S is a beautifully designed piece of hardware. And when it comes down to it, the thing that matters most is the user experience and how the phone operates.
With all the new features coming with iOS 5, the A5 dual core processor, dual GPU, 8 megapixel camera that can record video in 1080p HD, and finally Siri personal assitant, the iPhone 4S is more than likely gonna be an absolutely wonderful device.
How did a minor spec update take 16 months? They really shafted Cook with this as his first announcement….and with the carriers not giving the yearly upgrades that us loyal customers have been used to, the 4S will be a flop. Stock down 1% already. Apple could begin the slip from the top. Honestly very disappointed. Expected more from the #1 company.

Yes… i believe you are right, I did fall for the rumors (shame on me). Perhaps my expectations were just too high. It seemed plausible at the time to me given how much progress other phones have made, and how long it has been since last release of iPhone 4. Personally, I feel this is a marginal release… but I will probably get one if not just for Siri interface… that looks way cool!
How so? Did you read the market today? It was as low as 4% down. It rallied at the end of the day to be down .56%… sounds like your knowledge of financial markets might be a little foggy, fanboy.
Ok, a couple of things. I fell into the same trap that many of us did….it’s called believing the hype. We were expecting something completely different, bigger screen, aluminum teardrop back, modified home button, lightsaber, boomerang, a dishwasher and the list goes on. I am also a huge fan of the iPhone 4 design and after the initial disappointment, I realized that the 4S is freakin’ sweet (in Peter Griffin voice). The speed difference between my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2 is VERY noticeable. So to have the same processor in the 4S is sick. It maintains the same body but is over-hauled and I am probably most excited about the camera (still and video) and the antenna switching. Siri, I am sure will take some getting used to, but sounds awesome.
The biggest disappointment to me is that the “Cook”ster didn’t carry on Jobs legacy with a “one more thing”. It will take some getting used to not having Jobs up there, but I actually like Schiller as well and still holding out hope that ultimately Johnny Ives will succeed Cook. I believe Ives will be the next Jobs-esque CEO.

The contract on my iP3 expired 3 months ago so I will will be buying the iP4s. Just a little disappointed because Apple had allowed speculative talk of something better. They should have nipped that in the bud several weeks ago.
