Apple will launch the second-generation AirTag tracking device in May or June, according to a new leak Monday. The timeline, shared by leaker Kosutami on social media, aligns with Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman’s earlier prediction of a mid-2025 release for the device with a handful of new features.

Leak: AirTag 2 coming in May or June 2025 with these features
AirTag 2 will likely feature several significant improvements over the original model that debuted in April 2021, Bloomberg reported previously. Most notably, the new tracker will probably include a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip — the same technology found in the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
This upgrade could potentially triple the tracking range compared to the current model, offering capabilities similar to the “Precision Finding for People” feature on recent iPhones that works at distances up to 200 feet (60 meters).
Addressing privacy concerns
So we're here with Next Generation of AirTag May or June.

Apple will probably also address privacy concerns with the new model. The built-in speaker, which plays sounds to help locate lost items, may become more difficult to remove or tamper with. This change looks like a direct response to concerns about AirTags being misused for stalking purposes. Removing the speaker has proved to make the devices harder to detect.
Additionally, AirTag 2 may feature improved integration with the Apple Vision Pro headset. However, specific details about that functionality remain unclear.
Credible source on timing
Kosutami, who shared the timeline information, established credibility in Apple rumors by accurately predicting features like the iPhone 16 Pro’s metal-enclosed battery months before its official announcement. However, some of their predictions, like a new AirPods Pro launch timeline, have not materialized.
Kosutami has also hinted at upcoming releases of new AirPods Pro and Apple smart home accessories. Apple is reportedly developing a new smart home hub for release this year, with additional products like a Face ID doorbell and smart home camera potentially coming in 2026 or later.
The original AirTag currently retails for $29 individually or $99 for a pack of four in the United States. Pricing for the new model has not yet been revealed.
