If it isn’t a slightly warm rear end or an inability to find a Wi-Fi network, then the new iPad may be suffering from 3G connection issues instead. That’s according to the latest complaints on Apple’s Support Communities forum, which claim the device is dropping its 3G connection at random and not reconnecting.
The new iPad will reportedly drop its 3G connection at random, and nothing can be done to restore it. Users report that they’ve tried resetting their network settings, replacing their SIM cards, rebooting their iPad, and even restoring their devices. But none of these things work.
The problem is specific to the latest, third-generation tablet, according to the complaints, with users reporting that their older iPads do not suffer the same problem.
The thread has been steadily growing over the last week, according to AppleInsider, and it seems to be mostly affecting international users who are based in Austria, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Poland, the U.K., Singapore, Spain, and Italy.
However, a handful of users in the U.S. have complained, too. One writes:
“I live in northern Wisconsin and while I’m at home and the surrounding areas it works, but then the minute I am in extended coverage it doesn’t work!! Like many of you I tried resetting pretty much everything and nothing. I went to a Verizon store and tried to tell them that something is wrong with it and they pretty much told me that it was because when it is in extended coverage it might not work because of reception.”
Hopefully this is an issue Apple can address with a future software update, and not an problem with the new Qualcomm chipset introduced in the latest iPad.
Have you had any 3G issues with your device?

if you bought a 3G iPad, then you are a sucker
A friend and I were discussing this just the other day when he was in to visit, as his new iPad would not connect to the network after purchasing the data plan. However, this appears to only be an issue with devices linked to the CDMA network, because I haven’t heard a single complaint about the iPad not working properly on the GSM network. I think this is due to the fact that Verizon and AT&T both have true 4G LTE technology rolling out. The others… don’t. Not even remotely close. In fact, their 3G technology is so behind that compared to Verizon or AT&T, other company’s networks are lousy enough to frustrate even the most patient user. This is because they’re still using technology that was abandoned years ago. I don’t think this is the complete problem, as users of the previous generation of iPad were able to navigate Safari, the App Store, and iMessages while on an extended network, but perhaps Apple has set the restrictions for function only on the networks in which they’ll get the absolute best experience with the device – Verizon and AT&T. As far as the Wi-Fi issues go, now that’s a completely different story…
I can see my iPad Wifi + 4G 64GB on GSM network Netcom Norway does have some 3G issues, there shows it shifts coverage but after reboot it just be fine and coverage was the same all the time in the same place and sometimes there shows same coverage but the will not load the data into my iPad example you are on Facebook iOS app and there shows same coverage but the will not load any data into Facebook iOS app or installing App Store apps or using Safari there said “No mobile network activated” but still activated and show repection and coverage and fixed after a reboot ;)
Ifans, iturds, imorons, istupid, izombies & ijobs shitheads will say…
THERES NO PROBLEM, YOU ARE JUST HOLDING & USING IT WRONG…
APPLE IS GOD, THEY ARE PERFECT…
Full of shit defender, everyday…
@rfitzpatrick. I strongly disagree. IF one had to sign a contract perhaps. But this is on and off as much as you like. And when one travels a lot paying as much as $10 an airport to get onto wifi for each day compared to $30 for my grandfathered unlimited ATT plan for the month, how am I a sucker. When I have to do a gig in the desert with no wifi and my boss is willing to pay for that month’s 3g, how am I a sucker.
