This chunky silvery thing is an iKn2, a sturdy and secure case for iPad, built for those times when you might want to use one as a public kiosk device.

The case is made of aluminum, but its makers Identified Media say the metal is “radio-transparent”, allowing WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G signals to get through without any problems.

It’s lockable, so once the iPad’s inside, there’s no easy way to remove it. It’s mountable too. The entire case can be mounted to a pedestal (pictured), or on a table or a wall. It will fit on VESA brackets.

The design is patent pending and not quite ready; pre-orders are being taken here, priced at $99.
