Christy Pelland isn’t exactly a pinup, but you’d be forgiven for making that assumption viewing the pic above.
Pelland is a photographer by trade who specializes in retro-pinup portraits. And she loves her Macs.
Read on for more about her love affair with Apple, what makes Mac nerds sexy, her studio set-up, and yes, more pics.

Cult of Mac: How long have you been using Macs?
Christy Pelland: I have been fully ‘Mac’d’ since 2002 when I purchased my first MacBook Pro.
CoM: What’s your current work set up?
CP: Here’s the lineup in the studio:
Mac Pro with Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Harpertown” processors plus an added 8 GBs of ram, 30″ Cinema Display, 12×19 Wacom Tablet & stylus, Snow Leopard + CS4 PSD, Lightroom, 1 TB wireless time capsule, iPad for showcasing the work and multi-tasking between naps (I am a mother of two girls, ages 4 years & 10 months), 17″ Powerbook (my first Mac baby that we upgraded to the max ram (2gb). In 2008, I did a major upgrade.
CoM: What made you take the Mac pics? Who’s the model?
CP: The model – haha, that’s me! I’m launching my pinup art, Sweet Betty Jean, on February 14, 2011 – Valentine’s Day. The focus of the Sweet Betty Jean pinups is to bring out the unique beauty in each woman, showcasing what makes her special.
I am an artist and use Macs for everything I do — so including them in my shoot was a must.

CoM: How much are your portraits about the camera and how much about the computer?
CP: The process of creating a Sweet Betty Jean image combines my knowledge of the fine arts with a strong command of today’s digital rendering techniques and the methods of a classically-trained artist…
CoM: What’s the best pic you have taken so far with your iPhone?
CP: I just ordered my iPhone last night – I have a business account through Verizon and have been waiting patiently for the release. In order to get these kind of images you need a few Nikon D700s and 70-200 mm lenses.
CoM: Any tips for someone who wants to imitate your Mac portraits?
CP: Study the classics, get a camera, some lighting equipment and start playing around with ideas.wacom tablet and start painting away in Photoshop!
CoM: Why do you think Mac nerds are sexy?
CP: What’s not sexy about a confident, creative woman who can work her magic on a Mac!?!
I’m an artist who uses the tools at hand to create what I imagine – Macs are the best possible product for what I do.
