As a reader of Cult of Mac, I’d say it’s a safe bet that you have a whole bunch of 30-pin docks around your home. And that those docks have been rendered useless by Apple’s evil insistence on equipping all of its new devices with smaller, tougher, easier to use Lightning plugs.
Now, we bring good news. With just €13, you can resurrect your pointless plastic paperweight.
It’s the iPhone 5 Dock Adapter, and it’s a 3D-printed plastic insert that will rescue your old docks — and dock-equipped speakers — from obsolescence.
The adapter can be printed in several eye-hating colors, or you can choose white in a misguided attempt to match it to your existing dock. The insert drops in like any other universal dock insert, and will both support the iPhone’s back, and leave a hole for the 30-pin-to-Lightning adapter you’ll need to achieve the hookup.
That’s right: you’ll need to bring your own adapter. But any self-respecting Apple nerd will haver at least one of these lying around.
I’m pretty tempted, if only because I can leave the dock hooked up to a speaker and then use my old plastic Apple remote to control the tunes. Because that’s, like,. way easier than using a Bluetooth speaker and control it straight from my iPhone, right?
