In what is most likely the first drop test of the new titanium iPhone 15 Pro, a reviewer flew to Sydney, Australia, and pitted the handset in a series of drops against the stainless steel iPhone 14 Pro.
It wasn’t pretty. In fact, after doing OK in a few little drops, how the iPhone 15 Pro fared in bigger drops was shocking — even disturbing. The older iPhone won, to say the least.

A disorderly scuffle broke out at a Dubai mall Friday as shoppers rushed to get the iPhone 15, as stores around the world saw massive lines for the new handsets.
Footage on TikTok shows a big crowd scuffling at Mall of the Emirates to be first in line for the new iPhone. Security guards struggle to hold back the rowdy crowd and several people fall. Other videos show the crowd jostling each other as they scramble to be first inside.
Elsewhere around the world, first-day crowds were more orderly as thousands of people lined up to get the new iPhones.

And it also scores the handset reasonably well on repairability, something Apple has markedly improved in recent years.

If you’re getting a new iPhone, the very first thing you should do right out of the box is slap a screen protector on it. Even though Apple calls the iPhone 15 lineup’s Ceramic Shield glass screens the toughest ever, they can and will shatter when dropped.
Plus, no matter how much you baby your new smartphone, it’s going to rub up against dirt and debris in your pocket or while rolling around in your bag. That can lead to unsightly scratches.
Keep your iPhone 15‘s screen in superb shape with a quality screen protector. Here are the best options you can buy right now.

Got an iPhone 15 or 15 Pro on preorder? It’s time to start thinking about protection. Whether you want a sleek fit that complements iPhone 15’s slim design, extreme impact-resistance for the most damaging drops, or luxurious leather that only gets better with age, there’s an iPhone 15 case right up your alley.

iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are the first smartphones to include Thread mesh networking. But why? Photo: Apple
Thread wireless mesh networking is strongly associated with the Matter smart-home automation standard, so some people found it surprising Apple would include Thread radio technology in iPhone 15 Pro models in addition to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity.
A new report surfaced theories about what Apple’s up to and what future impacts it might have.

Anyone who even slightly delayed ordering the new iPhone 15 Pro models when they went on sale Friday morning faces a lengthy wait for their devices to be delivered. The delays extend into November for some handsets and configurations.
In addition, problems marred the preorder process via the online Apple Store, possibly due to high demand for the new titanium Pro phones.

Geekbench scores of Apple’s A17 Pro chip powering the iPhone 15 Pro series have surfaced online. The scores give a fair estimate of how fast Apple’s latest mobile chip is.

Trying to decide if you should buy iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max? After a few years of feature parity, this year’s lineup once again makes a marquee feature exclusive to the Pro Max model. And for photographers, it’s a doozy: iPhone 15 Pro Max gets a new 5x optical zoom, thanks to its tetraprism periscope lens.
Bigger display and longer battery life aside, this key camera improvement alone could make it worth upgrading to the larger iPhone Pro this year. Here’s how iPhone 15 Pro compares to iPhone 15 Pro Max.

At this point, considering the cinematic chops of iPhone cameras — especially in the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max — we expect to see full-length feature films. But we’ll take another “Shot on iPhone” pop music video like the one Apple’s pushing for Olivia Rodrigo’s song “get him back!”
The sassy music video, shot entirely on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, dropped Tuesday along with the arrival of the new iPhone 15 lineup.

The new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max handsets feature a lightweight titanium design with contoured edges, a new Action button, powerful camera upgrades and the A17 Pro chip to jack up mobile gaming, Apple said at its Wonderlust event Tuesday. And surprisingly, only the Pro Max’s price went up.
“This is the most pro lineup we have ever created, with a state-of-the-art titanium design, the best iPhone camera system yet that enables game-changing new workflows, and the A17 Pro chip, which ushers in a new chapter of performance and games never before seen on iPhone,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, in a press release about the new models. Contrary to rumors, research firm TrendForce thinks Apple will not hike the iPhone 15 Pro’s price. Instead, only the Pro Max model will see a price bump.
The Taiwanese firm predicts the iPhone 15 Pro Max will start at $1,199, a $100 increase from the 2022 model.

With less than a week to go for Apple’s “Wonderlust” event, a new report revealed key details about the iPhone 15’s camera setup. It appears Apple plans big camera upgrades this year — but probably not in the way you expect.
Corroborating previous rumors, the report confirms the periscope camera will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

iPhone 15 Pro's A17 Bionic chip could sport an extra GPU core. Photo: Cult of Mac
Apple’s upcoming A17 Bionic, the 3nm chip that reportedly will power iPhone 15 Pro, could feature a six-core CPU and six GPU cores. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro’s A16 Bionic uses a five-core GPU.
Based on TSMC’s advanced 3nm node, which increases transistor density to boost processing power while simultaneously reducing power consumption, the A17 Bionic reportedly will ship with 6GB LPDDR5 RAM. (That’s the same as the iPhone 14 Pro series.)
