Few of the products I review end up in my gear bag, but one that made the cut is the Belkin BoostCharge Hybrid Wall Charger 25W + Power Bank 5K. What I love about it is that when I have this accessory with me, I know I can recharge my iPhone, whether I have access to a wall socket or not. That’s because it’s both an external battery and a wall charger in one. It’s even reasonably portable.

Even better, a deal knocks 15% off the price.

My iPhone 17 delivers very good battery life. Nevertheless, when I leave the house for the day, I feel more comfortable knowing I can recharge it. Generally, my choices are a wall charger or a power bank. With this gizmo from Belkin, I get both in one package.

Two charging accessories in one

If I’m near a wall socket, I flip out the electrical prongs and plug in the Belkin charger, then connect my iPhone to juice it back up. If I’m off the grid, I use the accessory’s built-in 5,000 mAh power bank to replenish the handset. The device takes care of both jobs — and saves me from needing to carry extra stuff.

Despite its cumbersome name, the BoostCharge Hybrid Wall Charger 25W + Power Bank 5K is surprisingly portable, considering how many features Belkin packed in. Mine tucks easily into the bottom of my gear bag.

It’s not perfect, though. As I point out in my review, “If you don’t remember to bring a cable with you, this accessory can’t do you any good.” That’s why I pair Belkin’s hybrid power bank with Rolling Square’s inCharge XS, a super-portable charging cable. Still, Belkin built in USB-C and USB-A ports into its wall charger/battery. So there’s a good chance whatever cable you have with you is compatible.
