How Early Should You Get In Line For The iPhone 5? Between 4AM & 6AM. Here’s Why [Guide]

By

Applestoreline640

Last year, iPhone 4S pre-orders sold out in 22 hours before shipping dates slipped to 2-3 weeks. This year iPhone 5 pre-orders sold out in 1 hour before shipping moved to 2-3 weeks. Apple is going to sell iPhone 5s faster, and in more volume, than they’ve ever sold anything.

If you didn’t manage to secure a pre-order in time and are facing the prospect of standing in line at the Apple Store to get an iPhone 5 on launch day, you’re probably wondering how early you need to wake up and get in line. There’s not a clear formula on how it all works, and only Apple knows for sure how much stock they have, but the experience of the last five iPhone launches have given us some important information.

The Ugly Side Of Apple’s iOS 6 Maps App Fully Exposed [Gallery]

By

map9

It’s no secret that Apple’s new iOS Maps app has been a pretty big letdown so far. Surely Apple is working on perfecting the app and correcting a lot of erroneous data, but if you’ve already updated to iOS 6 you’re stuck with maps that have a tendency to glitch out on you, especially if you live outside the U.S.

The Amazing iOs 6 Maps is a new Tumblr account dedicated to the uglier side of Apple’s new maps app. They’ve compiled a ton of screenshots of iOS 6 Maps doing terrible things. Here’s some of the best/worst ones so far:

Apple Expands N.C. Solar Farm To Make Data Center Use 100% Renewable Energy

By

solarfarm

Apple’s solar farm in North Carolina is massive. Right now it’s the size of 109 football fields, but even that isn’t enough to make their data center run on 100% renewable energy, so Apple wants to make it bigger. To increase the amount of solar energy they’re able to generate, Apple just bought 200 acres of property in Catawba County for $3 million.

Office For Mac 2011 Finally Gets Retina Display Support

By

The worst thing about having a MacBook Pro with Retina display is having to constantly use apps that don’t support retina display. It’s like looking at a computer screen covered in vaseline. Most apps have already added retina display support, while others have been slower.

Microsoft Office has been in that “slower” category, which has forced users to use some trickery to get Office to display properly on a retina display. Thankfully, users won’t have to jump through hoops any longer as Microsoft just announced that Office for Mac 2011 now supports Retina display for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

New Samsung Commercial Makes Fun Of People Waiting In Line For iPhone 5, Again

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

There goes Samsung. Trying to win over iPhone users by releasing a new commercial that calls them a bunch of dumb hipster sheep. Again. Samsung isn’t going to win any fans by releasing these commercials every year, but to be honest, I actually enjoy them.

I mean, I don’t think the Samsung Galaxy S3 is better than the iPhone 5, or that people who wait in line for the new iPhone are stupid. But you totally hear Apple fans say ridiculous things like, “this phone is going to be like a precious jewel,” or “they should have a priority line for people who have waited five times.”

There’s no point in taking your smartphone preference too seriously, and even though Samsung’s newest commercial is almost offensive, it’s also kind of funny.

Time Warner Says They Would Let Apple Have Complete Control Over TV Interface

By

timewarner

While Apple still hasn’t released a full-fledged television, rumors have been circulating that they might be working on a cable set-top box for cable providers as well. The big question has been whether or not cable providers would allow Apple to come in and take control of the TV experience.

According to Time Warner Cable’s COO, they’d be more than happy to let Apple come in and have control of the TV interface if it makes the customers’ experience better.

Americans Have Spent An Estimated $5.9 Billion Repairing Their Damaged iPhones

By

squaretrade

If you’ve ever dropped your iPhone or taken it for a dip in the swimming pool, then you know the pains of having your favorite electronic device murdered in front of your eyes. You also know the pains of the repair bill in your attempts to bring your iPhone back to life.

SquareTrade released a new study today that shows damaged iPhones have cost Americans about $5.9 billion in repair bills since their introduction in 2007. The study also found that in the last 12 months alone, 30% of iPhone owners damaged their device.

Apple Needs To Add These Useful Features To Spotlight In iOS 7 [Video]

By

spotlight

I can’t remember the last time I really used Spotlight on iOS. I guess it’s cool. It brings up some pertinent stuff that you search for, but it’s not really a precise tool you can use with pinpoint accuracy, so most of the time it just gets neglected on most iPhones.

My fingers haven’t really been aching for a iOS Spotlight overhaul, but after watching this concept video by Cody Sanfilippo, I’m starting to believe there are a lot of great possibilities Apple needs to explore by heavily integrating apps into Spotlight. Just watch the concept video below to see all the cool things Apple could do to make Spotlight in iOS 7 truly amazing.

Samsung Learns The Hard Way That Everyone Wants An iPhone 5 [Image]

By

iphonesamsung

Samsung can’t catch a break. Samsung Mobile USA posted the following question on their Facebook page – “If you could only take one electronic device on a deserted island, what would it be?”

They probably figured fans would respond that they would totally take their Galaxy S3 or some other Samsung device that no one cares about. But when you’re on a fantasy island, you probably want the best phone possible, right?

So rather than receiving a mob of responses declaring their desire to never be parted with their Galaxy S3, a lot of people just said that they wanted an iPhone 5. Or an electric boat.

Sorry, Samsung. Maybe people will actually want the S4?

LTE iPhone 5 Will Double iOS Data Consumption Says Analysts

By

iphone5

When the iPhone originally launched in 2007, AT&T was shocked by how much data users consumed and it crippled their networks. Once 3G was added to the iPhone, data consumption predictably increased, but now that we’re on the cusps of seeing an LTE iPhone 5, one analyst firm is predicting the iPhone 5 will double data consumption.

Widespread iMessage Outage Is Currently Affecting iOS users

By

imessage

Reports have hit the web today that Apple’s iMessage service is experiencing a widespread outage. The problem seems to be affecting all sorts of different iOS users, even though Apple’s iCloud status page shows no problems. The outage seems to be carrier independent as a number of users have reported problems on both AT&T and Verizon.

Does This Video Prove Apple Could Sell You Anything?

By

post-191162-image-e61df319e5e64fd7d83cad4e3b630b92-jpg

Jony Ive is always so damn beautiful in every Apple product video. His gorgeous british accent just washes over my eardrums and magically hypnotizes me into buying whatever product Apple is pushing. Like, dude could sell me a mason jar of horse fat mixed with dead butterflies and pig’s blood and as long as Apple made a pretty video explaining why they made it, then I would be all about it.

To prove that point, Buzzfeed FWD mashed up Jony’s latest video with a video on how nasty, filthy, disgusting hot dogs are made. It’s sick and lovely, and pretty much proves that Apple could sell you anything they want and it would sound awesome. Do you agree? Let us hear your thoughts about Apple’s video sorcery in the comments below.

Get This Essential App If You Want to Switch Carriers

By

carriercompare

So, you’re ready to buy the iPhone 5. You’ve waited for months, you have the contract eligibility to upgrade. Hell, you can even switch if you want to. But which carrier is best for you?

Having Apple’s latest and greatest iPhone is worthless if you get yourself locked into a two-year contract with a carrier that doesn’t even provide you with high-quality cellular service at your house or work. Luckily, there’s an essential app and other tools you can use to check who provides the best service for your iPhone.

The Banned iPhone 5 Promo Video Apple Never Released [Video]

By

vid

Every promotional video Apple releases is oozing with ridiculous hype and self-importance. They’re beautiful and annoying at the same time. And as soon as Apple announces a new product you can be sure that 137 different parody videos will hit  YouTube the very next day

Most of the Apple parody videos rehash the same old jokes. Are they still funny anymore? I don’t know. But the guys at JLE have been making Apple parody videos for years now and just released their banned iPhone 5 promo video that is full of laughs. Check it out.

This Chart Shows How Stunning The Number Of iPhone 5 Pre-orders Really Was

iphonesales-copy

The iPhone 5 is already Apple’s most successful iPhone ever, in terms of first day sales figures. Apple received 2 million iPhone 5 pre-orders, which is double the number they received for the iPhone 4S.

GigaOM put together a quick chart to show just how stunning the iPhone 5 pre-orders have been. The iPhone 4S was the most successful smartphone ever, and the iPhone 5 is on pace to absolutely blow the iPhone 4S numbers away.

Save $20 On The iPhone 5 Lightning Adapter By Purchasing This Knockoff

By

adapters

Still kind of pissed off that you’re going to have to buy a $29 Lightning adapter so all your accessories can play nice with your iPhone 5? Apple’s not even going to include a free adapter with your iPhone 5, just so you’ll have to pay them more money for more adapters, or so you’ll just switch to AirPlay enabled accessories.

Whatever the reason, the price on Apple’s Lightning adapters is terrible, but thankfully the knock-offs have  arrived before the launch of the iPhone 5 and some of them will even save you $20 per adapter, so you can buy as many as you want for all your toys.

These Are The Complete Blueprints For The iPhone 5 [Image]

By

iphone5blueprints

The only people that really need to know all of the iPhone 5’s dimensions down to the nearest hundredth of a millimeter are case manufacturers, and rabid fanboys that can’t devour enough Apple knowledge. Apple posted the blueprints for the iPhone 5 in the developer center, but for some reason they can be accessed by anyone even if you don’t have an account.

The full high-res blueprints show crazy small details, like the degree of the proximity cone for the camera, and the difference in thickness between the antenna band and the display screen. It’s everything you’d need to know to make your own iPhone 5 case. To access the entire high-res blueprint PDF you can click here.

Every Adjective Apple Has Ever Used To Describe The iPhone [Video]

By

jobs

Every time Apple launches a new iPhone they use a lot of fabulous adjectives to describe how incredibly mind blowing it is. They usually use the same adjectives over and over to beat it into your small feeble brain that this new iPhone is revolutionaryfast, and cool.

The guys at Buzzfeed made a ridiculously amazing video full of a video editing precision that contains all the adjective Apple has used to describe the iPhone over the last five years. It’s glorious, so watch it below.
