Apple will donate to US National Parks for Apple Store purchases

Apple will make a $10 donation to the National Park Foundation for every Apple Pay purchase in the Apple Store.

The charitable donation program runs through this week, concluding on Sunday, August 25. It covers purchases made via both Apple’s online and physical retail stores.

Apple fans in Hong Kong will soon be able to add their Octopus transit cards to Apple Pay.

Support is “coming soon,” Octopus Cards Limited confirmed this week. It will allow you to use your iPhone or Apple Watch to pay for journeys and more with your transit card.

Update: Apple Pay launched in a total of 13 markets today. The full list includes Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, and Slovakia.

Apple Pay has debuted in four new countries. The mobile payment service is now live in Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Portugal.

Apple has said that Apple Pay will be supported in 40 countries by the end of 2019. This marks yet another step toward that goal.

Revolut has expanded Apple Pay support to 16 countries across Europe.

The mobile banking service first started working with Apple Pay in late May, but only in the United Kingdom. Revolut says its customers have been requesting support “for a long time.”

Apple Pay Express Transit is on its way to London, giving travelers a quick and easy way to pay for rides.

Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed it is working closely with Apple to enable the feature “in the coming months.” It promises more information will be available at a later date.

Starting Friday, subway riders in New York City will be able to use Apple Pay to swipe in and out of turnstiles.

Apple Pay functionality will initially be limited to the 4, 5, 6 line between Grand Central-42 Street in Manhattan and Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This is probably the most heavily trafficked subway line, and therefore one of the busiest venues Apple Pay has been rolled out as far as travel goes.

Portland-Vancouver has become the first place in the U.S. to let iPhone and Apple Watch users use Apple Pay to pay for their Express Transit needs.

Starting now, customers can take advantage of the functionality to board local TriMet and C-Tran buses, MAX light rail trains, and the Portland Streetcar.

Apple Pay has continued its expansion by going live in Hungary and Luxembourg. This marks 38 markets in which Apple’s mobile payment service is now available.

It is Apple Pay’s first new launch since it went live in Iceland at the start of May. That’s not the only Apple Pay news, either.

The news comes one day after a mobile banking service seemingly confirmed that Apple Pay is on its way to 16 new markets. It’s not clear whether any locations in the Netherlands are currently testing Apple Pay.

Apple Pay prepares to go live in the Netherlands

Shortly after going live in Austria, Apple Pay is also set to commence operations in the Netherlands.

The information was shared by Dutch bank ING on its website. While it doesn’t give an exact date, it does note that Apple Pay is coming “soon.” That suggests that all the necessary negotiations have been completed, and it’s just a matter of flicking the switch to send it live.

Apple Pay has launched in Austria, representing the 35th market for Apple’s mobile payment platform.

The service is supported for Maestro, MasterCard and Visa cards provided by the Erste Bank, Sparkasse, and N26 banks. Other Austrian Apple Pay partners are supposedly “coming soon.” These will include the likes of Bank Austria, VIMPay, Revolut, Boon and Edenred.

Struggling retail chain JCPenny has dropped support for Apple Pay according to a message from the company’s Twitter account.

JCPenny, which rolled out Apple Pay to all its stores two years ago, made the announcement in response to a customer’s query and complaints about removing “a very secure form of payment.”
