WhatsApp is reportedly preparing to finally bring Liquid Glass to its built-in video player on iPhone. In the latest beta version, the playback progress bar sports a translucent, floating look.
But it’s not in the regular version yet. That makes the video player one of the final screens still waiting for the redesign. Anyone using WhatsApp will easily notice the mismatch every time they open a video.
WhatsApp Liquid Glass hits the video player
WhatsApp has long supported video sharing and playback directly inside chats, making it easy to watch clips without leaving the app. Videos can be sent in individual or group conversations, while the built-in player provides basic controls for pausing, scrubbing through the clip and adjusting playback. That makes the video player an important part of the WhatsApp experience, particularly for users who frequently share videos in chats.
WABetaInfo was the first to spot the upcoming Liquid Glass user interface change in WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.39.10.70 on TestFlight. It says only a handful of beta testers are seeing the change for now.
In the beta, the video player’s progress bar floats along the upper edge of the display, resting on a translucent backdrop. It changes to white in light mode and dark in dark mode. And, as it turns out, the controls at the bottom are getting a fresh look as well.
The video player was a holdout
WhatsApp started testing Liquid Glass on iOS in October last year, with wider availability arriving in May this year. But several users say they still don’t have it.
Since then, Meta has been pushing the look into more parts of the app. It landed on iPad in June and on Mac a month later in July.
Don’t expect it everywhere yet
WhatsApp often tends to roll out features in waves, and this is no exception. Some beta testers say they do not see the new Liquid Glass video player yet, and WhatsApp has yet to give a date for the stable release. So if your video player still looks old, you have no option but to wait.
