Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone might stand out due to a “four-sided bending design,” according to a new report. The company reportedly plans to make the phone bezel-less, integrating the camera and Face ID sensors below the display panel.

To help Apple achieve its goal, LG Display is seemingly making heavy investments in the next-generation display technology.

A fully bezel-free iPhone in 2027?

To celebrate the iPhone’s 10th anniversary, Apple launched the iPhone X in 2017. It went on to redefine modern smartphone design. The company aims to do something similar with the 20th anniversary iPhone in 2027.

A report from Korean news site DealSite points to Apple cooking up a unique design to achieve this. Apparently, the display will curve on all four edges, giving the phone a bezel-less and futuristic look.

Apple’s implementation will purportedly differ from the curved screens seen on Samsung’s older Galaxy devices. The screen will bend from all four sides, making the manufacturing process more challenging and complex. Plus, it will move the Face ID sensors and selfie camera under the display to achieve a full-screen look.

DealSite reports that LG Display will make a massive investment of 400 billion won to supply Apple with the screen, allocating 10 production lines. Given the complexities involved, the technology will require the company to make significant changes to its manufacturing process.

Samsung focuses on foldable iPhone’s display supply

Samsung remains Apple’s primary display partner. Instead of investing in new production lines, the company is reportedly prioritizing other commitments. Much of its resources are seemingly focused on exclusively supplying display panels for Apple’s 2026 foldable iPhone. Samsung might eventually build new factories to supply Apple with panels for the 20th anniversary iPhone.

Surprisingly, Apple’s decision to use a four-sided curved display on the 20th anniversary iPhone comes as Android makers move back to flat panels.

Curved OLED displays once signaled premium design. However, practical drawbacks — like durability problems and usability concerns — led the makers of Android devices to adopt flatter screens in recent years.
