Americans are united about one thing: the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Market research from two different sources finds that the Apple’s super-size handset is the most popular 5G phone in the US.
iPhone 12 Pro Max sales top the charts
Ookla used data from the Speedtest application to discover that the new 5.7-inch iOS handset is the most used 5G model in 49 of 50 states during January 2021, according to PCMag. The iPhone 12 Pro is in second place.
Rather than going on app usage, M Science tracked sales of 5G phones in the traditional way. But it also reports that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the top-selling model. Its research indicates that the iPhone 12 is second place, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro.
All four of the iOS handsets released in autumn 2020 have 5G. But the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the largest and most expensive of the collection with a price starting at $1099.
Both companies agree that the much smaller and cheaper iPhone 12 mini has the weakest sales of any new Apple handset. It even falls behind some Android models.
Samsung Galaxy is in there swinging
Samsung was first to market with 5G devices, but all that got it was fourth place on both these popularity rankings, according to PCMag.
Ookla reports that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was the 5G-enabled Android model that used Speedtest the most in the US last month. But M Science says the Galaxy S20+ has sold more units.
