Huawei unveiled its own credit card April 8, just a year after the debut of the Apple Card. That might be a coincidence if the Chinese company didn’t have a long history of copying Apple.
It’s called Huawei Card, naturally
This computer maker’s new credit card is called Huawei Card, because of course it is. And it borrows other features from Apple Card, according to Engadget. It comes with one credit card number for the physical card and a different one for the online version. Neither is actually printed on the card. And it offers cash back, of course. Plus, it’s tied to Huawei Pay, the company’s payment system that’s similar to Apple Pay.
But there are differences, too. Huawei charges an annual fee for its card, something Apple doesn’t do. More positively, this card includes NFC for contactless payments, while Apple Card makes users do this function through an iPhone or Apple Watch.
No launch date has been announced for Huawei Card as yet.
Copycat, copycat!
An important part of Huawei’s business plan seems to be to rip off Apple whenever possible. The MatePad Pro tablet from 2019 looks almost exactly like the 2018 iPad Pro, for example.
And the Chinese company introduced the MagicBook Pro in 2019, a Windows laptop that‘s practically identical to a MacBook Pro. Or there’s the Huawei FreeBuds that look like first-generation Apple AirPods.
These all came out just in 2019. The farther back one looks, the more examples one finds of Huawei copying Apple.
