Music lovers can make sure they never miss a new song or album from their favorite bands and artists with a new notification feature that is slowly rolling out to Apple Music users starting today.

First spotted by MacRumors, the new notification feature pops up as a splash page on the Apple Music iOS app, telling users they can “get updates about new releases from artists you listen to — right in your Library.” Anytime an artist you like puts out a new album, EP, single or music video, you’ll see an alert at the top of your Library page.

Apple Music already offered notifications for artists you listened to frequently in the past, but it wasn’t very reliable. Unfortunately, with the new feature it looks like you can’t select which artists you get notifications about, so you’ll just have to trust Apple’s algorithm. When you go to the “Customize in Settings” option the only thing you can do is turn notifications on or off.

Spotify offers a similar feature with its “New releases for you” section that is based on artists you’re following or play regularly. The Apple Music rival doesn’t offer pop-up notifications but it also has a “Release Radar” section that is customized for each user.

It appears that Apple Music is pushing out the new notifications options to a limited group of users right now ahead of a wider launch over the next few days or weeks.
