Back in August, Doom creators id software promised to blew us all away with a demonstration of their next generation Rage engine running on the iPhone 4 at sixty frames per second. It was just a proof-of-concept, but don’t worry, there’s a game in there… and it’s going to be called Mutant Bash TV.
The game will take place in the still unrevealed Rage universe and essentially be a cross between the on-railed Doom Resurrection and the classic arcade title Smash TV. Your job is to hold off wave after wave of enemy by tilting to aim or mashing on-screen buttons to doge, fire, switch weapons or reload.
Mutant Bash TV is supposedly due out sometime this month, and will cost $0.99 for the non-Retina version and $1.99 for the higher res executable. The preview over at Touch Arcade goes into more detail, but ultimately, this looks the same as the last few id software titles for the PC: amazing technology married to gameplay and design that is utterly bereft of imagination. With Project Blade right around the corner, I don’t think this’ll be the most visually impressive iOS game for long.
