Samsung is already putting out commercials for its new foldable phone before the device has even been announced.
With a big event scheduled in San Francisco tomorrow, Samsung ran a teaser ad for its new smartphone during the Oscars last night and we have to admit, this thing actually looks pretty neat.
Take a look at this futuristic clamshell:

Samsung doubles down on folding smartphones
Although Samsung hasn’t officially revealed the name of the phone, reliable rumor sources have claimed it will be called the “Galaxy Z Flip.” Unlike the disastrous Galaxy Fold, the Z Flip will use Ultra Thin Glass for its folding display. The Galaxy Fold has a plastic display that’s prone to getting bumps and other issues.
Packing a screen that folds out into a 2636 x 1080 resolution display measuring 6.7 inches on the diagonal, the Z Flip looks like it could unlock some novel uses for smartphones. Folding down into a clamshell makes the Z Z Flip easier to carry in a pocket and its hinged display can be used at couple of different angles.
Motorola is also trying to do something similar with its new Razr folding phone, but has fun into a couple of issues. Considering how much trouble Samsung has already had with folding smartphones we’re not expecting the Z Flip to be a colossal hit, but it’s certainly pushing smartphones into new territory.
Other specs on the Z Flip will likely include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chip, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The company is also expected to announced the Galaxy S20 lineup of phones this week. Samsung’s Unpacked event is slated to go down in Apple’s backyard of San Francisco on Tuesday, February 11 at 11AM PT.
