Adobe has brought its professional photo editing software to the Mac App Store.
Lightroom for macOS is available now as a free download, and you can try it for seven days before deciding whether or not you want to cough up for it. This is the full version of Lightroom — just like you would get from Adobe.
Despite an ever-growing list of competitors that offer similar features and smaller price tags, Lightroom is still considered the go-to photo editing application for lots of professional photographers.
Its arrival in the Mac App Store makes it easier than ever to download and update. And if you do decide to pay for it, you’ll be charged the same rate as those who sign up to the Creative Cloud suite directly through Adobe.

That means you’ll pay $9.99 a month, or $118.99 a year for full access to the app. Your subscription gets you complete access to all Lightroom features, plus 1TB of cloud storage for all your projects.
Lightroom offers everything you’ll need to edit, organize, and share your best photos. It’s also pretty easy to use considering it packs so many features aimed primarily at professional users.
This isn’t the first time Lightroom has been available from the Mac App Store. Lightroom 4 was on sale for $149.99 back in 2012, but it disappeared when Adobe introduced Lightroom 5.
Its return is welcome following the discontinuation of Apple’s own Aperture app in 2014.
